Hey James, Maybe we need a group in "Modeling the Frisco" for our bigger stuff. 1/8th scale and larger... Darren McNeely
That would be nice, although I suspect that as the scale increases, the number of people modeling decreases! We could start with a thread in the general section of modeling for anyone to show pictures of their large scale Frisco projects. Speaking of that, there is a 2-8-2 in Texas & Pacific paint for sale on DLS that could be rebuilt into a good model of a Frisco Mikado... if any of ya'll watched the video and said, "Boy, would I like to do that!" - here is a running steamer to get you started: http://www.discoverlivesteam.com/discoverforsale/forsale/1_nickerson/index.htm#mike Make sure you scroll down to see it; I think it is the second item down the page. But... the price is waaaay beyond my means.
Built by a retired MD in CA. We've run articles and photos from him in past FMIG Newsletters. The stock car contains the LP fuel and was built from Jim Rucker's HO article. Doug
James, I've found that the bigger stuff sometimes awakens the live steam modeller back to the smaller scales. I still work on the HO stuff with my oldest son. Be that as it may, I'll post a link that I have of the 1060 taking off on a cold October morning last year, pulling the REA express reefer IN TEXAS. If I ever gat a chance to pull the throttle on a big one, I'm there! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5OKqWZVonA Darren McNeely
Darren.... I love it! If that doesn't put a smile on a guy's face, nothing will. Got any more (longer) videos of it? - James
I don't have a lot, but I'll take some while I'm down at the Commanche and Indian Gap next month. I'll try and get some coonskin stuff that other people have done also. Darren (whoo hoo - I'm a Gandy Dancer now!)
