Not too long ago, I was in Joann's in Tupelo, MS when I noticed some 2 lb. bags of "Decorative Sand" (Crushed Quartz) for $2.99 in various colors. http://www.joann.com/panacea-products-black-sand-2-lbs/9560921.html#q=Decorative+Sand&start=2 I bought some in black, gray, and brown. I'm not exactly sure what I'll do with it all yet but my sand and gravel business is sure to get some inventory out of the deal. For only $1.50/lb, I thought it might be worth a shot. If anyone knows any cons about crushed quartz, please let me know ASAP.
On another issue. I'm thinking of converting some coal loads into woodchip loads by spraying the coal loads with Elmer's Spray Adhesive http://www.dickblick.com/products/e...-1011&gclid=CKqGhbzEw74CFTQQ7AodIhUA1w#photos and sprinkling on some wood shavings that I got with a life-like trainset 23 years ago. I've had the shavings in a ziplock bag all this time... just waiting on a reason to use it. If anyone has better tips for cheap woodchip loads, please share the wealth. If it helps, I have more than enough coal loads so sacrificing some coal loads for much needed woodchip loads seems like the thing to do. Let me know what you think about my idea before I mess up my coal loads. - Brandon
