New QA&P Decals Oddball Decals has 2 new sets for the Quanah, Acme & Pacific. One is for a 50' double sheathed boxcar and the other is for a caboose. Both contain the Quanah logo enclosed in a Frisco coonskin.
Decals for Renumbering 465-469 Express Cars Folks - Looking over my Athearn 465-469-series 40'(40'6" I.L.) express cars (built 1942 by Pullman) that were originally numbered with 6 digits (nonconsecutive). Anyone have any recommendations for replacement number decals? Incidentally, the 1942 drawings list A.S.F. ride control trucks. Re: Decals for Renumbering 465-469 Express Cars Chris, I read the car diagram differently. I believe that these cars were delivered with the Allied-Full Cushion trucks, just as the Athearn model has.. The diagram notes indicate that the trucks were changed during 1949. It is my believe that at this time the AFC trucks were replaced with the ASF Ride Control Trucks. So during the war years these cars rode on the Allied-Full Cushion trucks. These trucks were prone to derailments, and were outlawed for interchange circa 1955-1956. As for decals, look around for some Champ PH-50’s. Even though Champ has quit producing decals, many are still in stock. Or make your own. There are several internet sites that have Railroad fonts for purchase. Print the sets on the inkjet decal paper as sold by http://www.railwayshop.com/evan.shtml .

After searching for some decal application help, I thought this "how to" video might be helpful to someone else like myself. The model in this video is a plane. Agree with Greg's comment! Funny looking wings on that Spitfire model. I don't like the decal prep and setting solutions the guy uses. I far prefer laying down a coating of MicroSet (blue) first, then lay on the decal, position the decal, gently pat it dry, then gently cover it with several coats of MicroSol (red) letting the decal dry between applications. Depends on the decal, but I usually lay on about three/four coats of MicroSol, using a small, soft brush. Then a day or so later, overspray with your desired clear finish - flat, satin, gloss, etc. I also have a bottle of Walthers Solvaset for tough decals. If the MicroSol doesn't do the trick completely, after the decal dries, I put on a coat of Solvaset. You need to be careful with Solvaset, as the stuff is potent, and can soften the decal so much that you will mess it up with the brush. (I've done that a few times!). In general, I find that Oddballs and Microscale decals are the easiest to work with, Herald King is in the middle, and Champ and Walthers are the hardest to set properly. It is really a function of the thickness of the decal film. Decaling is one of the things I like best about our hobby. Really makes the model come to life. Back in 1974 or 75, I took a short course on decaling that Microscale put on at Walt's Hobby shop in Cincinnati while we lived there. I was working on 1/72 scale model airplanes then, but the game is the same. Ken
