    To All:

If there is already another thread about this I apoligize in advance. I just got this picture of a brand new BNSF Heritage unit that was unveiled today in Ft. Worth. Another rumor site referred them as Gevo's. Bottom line, it seems like following UP's example and painting SD70Mac's in the 10 fallen flag lines (the site said 10) they have acquired over the years with the first one being the CB&Q. Here is the photo:

I assume they will get the orange color correct and someday a model will follow. Wouldn't be something to get that parked in Pittsburg and/or Tulsa in September for the meets if it's done by then.

This is big as the Frisco will live on!

The person who posted the photo says the Frisco one will be Black & Yellow.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and if I wouldn't have posted the picture everyone would have immediately brushed this off as an April Fool's joke! Unless someone's really good at Photoshop, it isn't a joke!

Bob - I hope it is true and not an April 1st trick. I thought the UP idea was a good one, but the designs they used to recognize the various railroads were a bit bizarre to my mind.

If the CB&Q BNSF version is indicative, they will stay closer to what the various railroad schemes actually looked like. That will be really neat. They picked a good scheme for the "Q" unit.

Glad to hear a Frisco will be coming! Actually, and it is hard for me, a SLSF b/y lover, to admit this, but I'd rather see this modern BNSF unit in the Frisco o/w colors. It would be a nice indication of what they would really look like if the Frisco were still with us.

    Ken

ps: Let's see, BNSF = ATSF, CB&Q, GN, NP, SLSF, SP&S ..... who else?

This may or may not be true as I may have fallen to the April 1st hex. These may be units (more than one) assigned to service around Ft. Worth, May the search for the truth begin!

Where ever that picture was taken either the trees green up a lot faster than around here or it was taken at a different time of year. After some of the post's that were put on the MKT an RS Yahoo groups this morning it looks like a hoax to me. However like Dennis Miller says "That's just my Opinion I could be wrong."

Most everyone on Trainorders.com seems to think it is a great April Fool's joke and I am inclined to believe that is a very good one indeed. It would be nice though.

I'm weighing in on the April Fools' side of things. It's just a tad too crisp.

BTW, what does "BNSG" stand for?

The giveaway is the area between the cab and the grille right behind the cab. Also the black at the bottom edge of that grille.

Looking very closely at the photo with some photo editing software I have the entire top edged when zoomed in on does not match up, also there are some white areas where the photo did not get touched up near the rear of the loco.
I also just read on the RR Tulsa group that suppossedly BNSF says it is a Hoax.

Ahh, but it made us feel full of hope with all the possibilities. That is what April and Spring is all about when you get down to it!

Anyhow, HWB has already done a splendid job in his album:

I say we encourage his efforts and maybe generate a few of our own (but not so many as to clog up the Library;)).

I know a man that works in the main BNSF office in Ft. Worth who's an ex-Frisco guy from Springfield, MO. We've talked about them doing a heritage series, which HAS been hashed out at the main office, but it was deamed too expensive at this time.

This discusion took place about 3 months ago; so, I venture to say,"APRIL FOOLS?!"

The giveaway to me was the initials BNSG- otherwise, I liked the photo, and I'm not that big of a CB&Q fan.

Whoever Photoshopped this pulled a good one.:D

Rats! That would have been a good thing for BNSF to do. The US rr's need to do something to improve their image and to get something unique in the public eye to draw positive attention to them.

  16. Hi, I've looked over the photo. I'm in a Computer Aplications class in High school Photo Shop is one of my favorites. This one is quite hard though. Most interpixles line up. Though some of the colors on the underframes arent just right. I believe this is a Joke but I may be wrong.
    Ship it on the Frisco!!!

That picture was a photoshopped fraud...posted by a kid over at the Train-sim dot com Forum & Library....Some people will do anything for attention. There was a few Heritage paint proposals put to BNSF....so far, only one actually ever got put onto an actual locomotive...BNSF heritage 771 (using a SLSF road number)..Unit wore the paint for quite some time, but wasn't ever assigned a BNSF road number..This pic was from late 2001..

What is this RR Tulsa group you speak of?

It is a Yahoo group. It is basically a place for Railfans in the Tulsa area.

  20. The photo shown by Frankoburn is a fraud. The #771 became the BN #3061 and later wound up on the KCS as #4821 then #2970. In the summer of 1998, the former Frisco GP40-2's that went over to the KCS were operating still in BN green/black. For a time, they still had BN numbering but the BN logo was painted out and white KCS block letters applied under the cab windows.

The former #771 was no longer on the BN roster in 2001 (date of the heritage photo) since it went to the KCS in 1998. Also, photographs of it on the KCS show a flat metal plate installed where the nose Gyra-light use to be. The fraudulant photo shows a standard nose. There are no marker light plating in the photograph... someone did a little photo-shop work.
