Hello Frisco Folks, Here are some photographs of Frisco 1500 series Mountain Class Engines SLSF 1521, 1524, 1526, 1527, and 1529. Enjoy, Rich Ship it on the Frisco!
I have had an extreme fascination with the Frisco 4-8-2 SLSF 1529 in Amory, MS for as long as I can remember. Any information anyone can give me on this locomotive will be appreciated. I have done many hours of research already but I am looking for anything I may not have come across.
Here are a couple of photographs of 4-8-2 SLSF 1529. I do not have any details regarding the photographer or date. The first photograph was taken at the Kansas City Union Station. The photographs may be ones posted elsewhere on this chat board and they possibly may have the details. Tom
Attached are two photographs I took of 4-8-2 SLSF 1529 on 12/4/2010 around 3:40 pm. I like the way the city of Amory, MS puts Santa Claus in the cab.
It is good to see the locomotive with a roof over her. Something about the 1500s, elegant, graceful, you know what I mean. Is the 4-8-2 SLSF 1527 in Mobile, AL protected also?
If this is a current picture, 4-8-2 SLSF 1527 is not protected with a covering. http://www.alabamarailfan.com/download.php?file=frisco_1527.jpg&catid=image
Is not there some talk in Amory, MS of painting the 4-8-2 SLSF 1529? If so, I could help with instructions and measurements.
Don Maybe 4-8-2 SLSF 1527 had been leased to China before it was retired and we just did not know it. I mean, if the Texas and New Orleans (T&NO) could paint the smokebox door white, then surely the Chinese could paint the drivers red. Gordon
First the Russian 2-10-0 Decapods, now the Chinese 4-8-2 Mountains. What part of the Frisco roster was not Communist?
For no particular reason, I did a Google search this morning for "Frisco 1529" and came across a website concerning the static restoration of the engine in Amory, MS. I am so glad to learn about this. The engine is in desperate need of painting. I have told my family that I would be delighted to help paint it if I only knew who to contact. I may get my chance. The article says they need painters and welders. Anyone interested can call Lorie Bryany at 662-256-8700. I plan on calling her myself later today. I will reply to this thread with more information after I talk to her. Here is the web site link. http://www.amorymainstreetinc.com/c...124-engine-1529-in-frisco-park-gets-new-fence
Would be nice to get rid of the white lettering and replace it with gold lettering and gold Doric stripes.
I can pass along information on the lettering and striping. I did all of it on the 4-8-2 SLSF 1522. I would like to see it done correctly without the whitewalls and number on the air reservoirs on the top.
If you are attempting to get the colors right on the restoration, there are plenty of descriptive posts that can help. For instance, Roof color: Other colors: See Karl's post at the following link. http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?3438-1529-Roof-Color-amp-Coal-Oil&p=22874#post22
