Finally, as promised here is a link to my YouTube video of my 4-8-2 "Frisco 2229" BBQ grill smoker.

    Frisco 2229 is a tribute to 4-8-2 SLSF 1522 and SLSF 1529,

Although it took me a while to get around to it, it is in action on 1/10/2011. The only thing I have not done yet is make and attach a coonskin number plate under the headlight.

I recorded actual 1522 sounds from YouTube to make a 1 hour long CD to play in a CD player in the cab.

Click the link to watch the video. It is about 1 minute long.

    It looks GREAT!

Another cool feature I just thought of would be a working head light.

Video and smoker both well done!

What we really want to know was how the Boston butt came out.

Was it well done and smoked too?

That is really cool, especially the smoke out the stack.

It looks like she is really highballing down the track.

Does it cook as good as it looks?

I put a head light on it, a small outdoor spotlight I found at Lowes.

Just the right size. There is a picture in the video of the front of the grill with the headlight on. At least I think it is in the video. I guess you just missed it.

To answer the question of how it cooks, I am very pleased. I have plans to haul a black angus cattle train in the next day or two. Gonna grill some ribeye steaks.

I have investigated the possibility of making a steam whistle.

Do not know about taking that on or not. We will see.

    I like it! :D

All we need now is maybe a tank car full of Scotch, an ice bunker with cold soda. :D :D

    Now were talking.

Weighing in at what has to be at least 500 lb. or more and with only four 3" casters.

My homemade, 1:4 scale, 4-8-2 BBQ grill smoker has proven to be entirely too heavy for me to maneuver in one piece. I actually anticipated the weight problem during the design phase and built it in 2 sections. The front section = charcoal in two 55-gal drums. The rear section = gas in one 55-gal drum with a bottle in cab.

Up until this point, the 2 sections were bolted together. I am in the process of disconnecting the 2 sections and adding an axle to each section with 16" push-mower wheels. By separating the grill into two sections and adding four 16" wheels, it should be easier to maneuver.

I will be able to realign the 2 sections end-to-end for display as a 1:4 scale locomotive. Right now, my carport looks like a 1:4 scale steam locomotive restoration shop. Everything has been removed from the frame.
