Hello All--I was just perusing my 1965 "Official Guide" and noticed an odd Frisco passenger train, 875-6, from Chaffee, Mo, to Popular Bluff. Does anyone have any info on these trains? What equipment? What purpose? How did it last so long, etc? Thanks, Chris
I don't think freights 875/876 were carrying passengers at this time. Please see:http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?1873-Trains-875-876-(Hoxie-Sub)&highlight=875
Thanks for the link--I just assumed it had passengers because in general the Official Guide (in most sections including Frisco) shows freight routes as being "freight service only." This route shows a train, and times through each town. Maybe the Frisco was just touting their freight service here, but it appears in the Guide like other tables which show passenger service.
Chris Adams, you've certainly picked an interesting train to research. However, Karl is spot-on. Even the 1963 Southeast District timetable lists 875/876 as a simple "local," and as content via the link he provided indicates, passenger service on these trains came to a halt in the late 3rd/early 4th quarter of 1958. Best Regards,
Thanks, I thought it was strange--Frisco was about down to the bare bones on passenger service by '65, and I had never heard of this train before. It's deceptive how it's listed in the Guide.
It may also be worth noting that the All Aboard magazine notes that, by 1961, 875/876 were the Monday/Thursday local runs on the Hoxie Sub, while 873/874 were the Wednesday/Saturday counterparts. http://condrenrails.com/Frisco/Frisco-Museum-All-Aboards/AA1991.2-3.v5.5.pdf
