I have used Suitcase connectors on my last two layouts. Yes, sometimes the connector has to be changed or re-crimped, but the same thing happens with solder connections. Suitcase connectors are easy to use and hassle free. And the good thing is you don’t burn your self!

I'm with you Jerome--If a solderless connection can POSSIBLY be used, I'm all for it!

Unfortunately Bob, To cut costs, and since I am in the learning stages of this layout building stuff. As much as I hate to do it, an aircraft carrier layout is exactly what I have but it wont look bad when I'm done. I am learning as I go but our hills and stuff are going to be above the table anyway. I have bought some things to add depth and distance to the layout. I just wish I could get this track plan to come together so it is operational. MAking something to put the Christmas tree in the middle of is easy. I have made one Boo Boo already though......I bought some flex track at hobby lobby under the impression that it was nickel silver, well it looks like nickel silver but I am convinced it is nickel plated steel track because it dont bend worth a hoot. And I bought a big bunch of Flex track at a trainshow for $2.00 a stick, (this guy was dumping loads of Flex track) and it is extremely flexable. The two different types seem to be uncompatable at the joints.
I grind and solder and grind somemore until I can make it work. If I just put it together, it looks like the 2 are fitting together fine but as soon as I test an engine on it, it derails at the joints. The plans are to have a very well detailed, and busy layout, and so far the downtown buildings are looking really good, I am just having trouble trying to fit an industry, passenger station, or small business with a siding into a 2 foot section and still have the mainline pass without a collision, while doing it in scale. If I think about it long enough I will figure it out. I was able to fit 26" to 28" radius curves in the corners so the passenger train would look good and the 4500 wouldnt derail I just have to continue to think and think somemore on the rest of it to will come full square! I finished my first FRISCO water tower last night and will be posting pictures tomorrow.|-|:)|-|:)|-|
