Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting Ted at the local hobby shop. Frisco fans in the Houston area are rare.

Karl, I'm going to be in Houston for a couple of weeks, dog-sitting while my wife's daughter and her husband go off to Grand Cayman (she's a vet and will be teaching there.)

Anyway, what are some good LHS, layouts, clubs in town where I can feed my addiction!

    Glenn,

I am on the SW side of town, and go to Papa Ben's. Wayne Weiss had the best inventory in town, but retired to do mail order out of Salida, Colorado. It's the direction that this hobby is going.

They have recently moved to this location, and the inventory, is smaller than what it was at their previous store. An N scale club is building a layout in the store. They can hook you up with some of the local club schedules. The Houston Society of Model RR Engineers is out HWY 288 toward Manvel.

Head out toward Rosenberg and Old Tower 17. The SP's Sunset line crosses the ATSF at this location. There's lots of action plus AMTRAK and the Haywire's NAFTA Express heads out the recently completed Macaroni Line. Several years ago, I even caught the 1522 passing Tower 17.

The NRHS has a nice collection of equipment, and it is located on the east side of town.

    This should get you started.

It was a pleasure meeting you, Karl, after all of the email correspondence. You have helped me fill in a lot of holes in my research of the northern portion of the Clinton Sub.

Glenn, keep me posted on when you are in Houston, and perhaps you can join me for some railfanning....I have been hitting the KCS Macaroni Line pretty hard lately.

As a member of the Houston Society of Model Engineers, I can tell you that the club is pretty dormant right now, as all of the formerly super-active members are either working long hours or on frequent travel schedules, making it hard to hold regular work nights.
We have had a tough time getting down there and there are lots of maintenance projects to work on. However, if the times line up, I can get you down there for a look and some running (after a lot of track cleaning!)
