Here is yet another site with frisco pictures for sale. http://www.westernrailimages.com/Fr...s-San-Francisco/7187638_Rnc4S#465981208_Xq68F Quick note: From my understanding from what I've read on here the race horse scheme came with the white out line on the gold strips from EMD, and the Frisco shops didn't do that right? Well I beg to differ, check out the last page of the album in the link.
The first E-8's 2006 to 2015* (or so) came from the factory without the white outlines. 2016 to 2023 did come with them and then the Frisco put the white edging on the first batch. It was about this time (1950) that the first six (2000-2005) E-7's were remodeled to look like E-8's. * Not quite sure about this number--May have been other than 2015?? Tom
Tom is correct. We had an in-depth discussion in an earlier frisco.org post (based on the E7 and E8 painting diagrams) of the actual point at which EMD started to add the white outlines to the gold stripes and lettering at the factory and on what unit. It was one of the units in the low 20-teens numbers. But, I can't find it! The Frisco then also started to add the white outline to the gold stripes and lettering on the units it already had. This included the E7's, which were being rebuilt to look (and perform) more like the E8's. Attached is a pic of E7 SLSF 2004 getting its Dan Patch treatment in the Frisco shops. I believe this is from an All Aboard article from that time period. The six Frisco E7's were SLSF 2000-2005. The seventeen Frisco E8's were SLSF 2006-2022. Twenty three E-units in all, all A-units. The discussion about as-delivered E8A paint schemes is here: http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?t=3309 It resulted from questions that were asked at the first Frisco Festival in Pittsburg, KS on September 12, 2009.
