Stop me if you've heard this one...

I needed to remove the lettering from a heavyweight coach lettered for the AT&SF that will eventually become SL-SF 700-series coach.

I read years ago that a small amount of scouring powder will do the trick but I'd never tried it. So, I grabbed the Ajax and moistened the larger end of a flat toothpick, and then dabbed it into the residual dust that accumulates at the top of the container...and whaddya know, it works!

As far as I can tell, it hasn't rubbed off the rivet detail and with a bit more work, I'll have a Pullman green coach ready for relettering and details (part of my "get more modeling done by doing less when less will suffice" approach these days).

That's good to hear, Chris. So that didn't remove any paint along with the lettering? I just got a new MDC 2-6-0 Mogul with NYC lettering and I need to Friscoize it. Thanks for the tip. I've used brake fluid for paint remover with good results. Jim

    Chris and Jim:
I use Solvaset or Micro Sol and a Qtip. I have had good results using this method.

By golly you're right Bob. The first time I ever used decal solution was on the Westerfield kits and I almost destroyed some of the decals by overdoing it. That stuff will flat out melt a decal into goo. Great tip. Jim
