There is an article about Springfield Missouri that is in the Feb. 2010 issue of the Magazine Railfan Railroad magazine. The article is about the Heart of the Frisco, Springfield Missouri written by Charlie Dischinger MMR. Charlie is a former Frisco Engineer and former editior of the FMIG Newsletter. Be on the lookout for it. I for one am really looking forward to reading it. Bob Wintle MMR Parsons Ks. PS: I've known Charlie for 30 years now, wow time has flown by.
Thanks for the heads up Bob! I headed out to the local bookstore and picked up a copy. Springfield is mentioned in two other locations in the magazine as well. Jim Boyd has a couple of Frisco Era photos, and the "Markers" column has a couple of BN era photos. Incidentally, I noticed something that brings up a question. In one of the two Jim Boyd photos, you can see the RIP shed on the east end of the has a sign that reads "Caboose & Reefer Car Repair Shop". I know the west end RIP shed had a similar sign, but what was written on that sign in Frisco days? Paul
Just picked up my Railfan & Railroad today and there were only two copies left. I was only able to glance at the article before returning to work and I liked seeing the orange/white. Be still my heart. Paul, I think the RIP on the west end was for cars and I might have a late 70's or early 80's photo that shows the sign. I will try to look for it tonight.
Pretty good article--Too bad the magazine near the back pages refers to the railroad as the "St. Louis-Southwestern" (Page 64)! Nice Texas Special "nose art" on page 43. Tom
Paul, I have attached a June 1981 photo I took of the west end car repair facility. The sign on the west end of the yard reads West Speed RIP Car Repair Shop There is a small Frisco box car on the left of the speaker and I cannot make out what is on the right side of the speaker.
