Two of the finer HO kits in SLSF colors I have experienced are the Proto 2000 Frisco 52'6" Drop End Mill Gondola and the Proto 2000 Frisco 4427 PS2-CD High-Side Covered Hopper. Both kits are much fun to build, go together wonderfully, and look and run great. P2K released them several years ago - first the GB's, then the LO's.

I bought a bunch of each and have built several (*). I like them very much, but I was just looking at my "stacks" of unbuilt kits, and recognize I bought too many. I'll never build them all. I'd like to offer frisco.org members some of them at a nice savings if any of you are interested. If you don't have any - and the cars fit your era - you ought to have one or more of these cars on your Frisco roster.

The original price of the gondola kits was $16.00; the original price of the covered hopper kits was $15.00. I'll offer each for $10.00 per kit, plus actual shipping per USPS Priority Mail. For starters, I'm probably interested in selling off three/four of each kit in any combination. Multiple purchases will be combined in a single USPS shipment. Payment via PayPal, money order, or personal check is acceptable.

If interested, send me a Private Message via frisco.org (to meteor910) and I'll advise the specific kits and SLSF road numbers that are available, plus s/h to your Zip code. I can also supply build dates and other info on these cars if interested. FYI, the GB's are in black (I have at least one in red) with white lettering, and the LO's are in gray with black lettering. The P2K painting and lettering are very well done and prototypically correct.

    Thanks.

(*) I'm just finishing building one of the LO's - SLSF 79052. Nice!

What would be the correct period for each of the models?

    Gordon -

The P2K SLSF GB's are the Pullman-Standard Greenville design cars from the SLSF 61000 series. See p89 in the Molo book for an example of one of these old warriors, SLSF 61676, plus an example of one rebuilt, renumbered and repainted into the FRISCO billboard scheme, SLSF 51537. The Frisco got these cars from P-S in three batches - SLSF 61000-61399 in 1949, 61400-61599 in 1953 (both black, with white lettering, white logo), and SLSF 61600-61899 also in late 1953 (this time in mineral red, white lettering, white/black logo). They ran a long time. I remember seeing them come through Rolla - most of them well beat up. They are likely all gone now, even the rebuilds.

The P2K SLSF PS2 LO's are from the SLSF 79000-79299 series. They were built new in 1967. I don't think there is a pic of these cars in the Molo book. A member of a follow-up purchase, SLSF 79499, from the SLSF 79300-79499 series, is pictured in the book on p103. This second batch was built by P-S in 1971, and looks similar, if not identical. There is some nice commentary with the pic in the book.

I have the Frisco car diagrams for these GB's and LO's if anyone wants them with the kits. I've sold a couple - still have some of each type left. I can supply the car numbers of the kits still on hand if interested.
