    To All:

There has been some discussion recently about caboose trucks and the type that would be applicable to various ones the Frisco either owned, acquired, or built. Kadee for one has released several new freight car and caboose trucks over the last several months bringing their product line total to 19.

Because of that, would it it be feasible to form a category or categories to help us identify the type/brand of trucks that went under freight car, passenger cars, and cabooses.

I am posing this in the form of an announcement so that anyone who would like can answer with opinions and/or comments as to how we would do this if it even feasible and something everyone would feel useful.

Bob - I, for one, would like to see a truck category(s) - for freight and for passenger trucks. For some reason, railroad trucks have been an interest of mine since my early Lionel days as a kid (way back there!). I have become a truck nut since, lead on by info, articles and training from friends Pat Wider, Richard Hendrickson, Ed Hawkins and others.

I believe many of us worry a lot about the details on our models, but then, for example on freight cars, just let them run on any "Bettendorf" truck. The truck type is one of the details I like to make sure of on all of my models. There are dozens of types, and I've told Kadee I'm very happy to see them expanding their HO line extensively with their new, second generation truck design. Walthers/P2K, Tichy, Kato and Accurail also offer accurate alternatives.

Except for a few, trucks mostly escape my memory just as all the new "jelly bean" looking automobiles.

I, for one - would very much like to see a reference of freight / pass cars and the types of trucks used on them.
Even better would be a list with photos included too!

I totally agree, however, I am not very knowledgeble in this area. If you can be specific, I will furnish all the photos I can to the project, just give me the car# and if I have a photo, I will add it to the turck list.

After some further thought, how would everyone feel about expanding the category to include other appliances added to cars such as type of door, brake wheel, etc. or would this be too confusing?

    Input please!

Just thinking out loud to understand, mind you, so bear with me.

Do you perhaps mean forum architecture along the lines of "Historical >> Freight Equipment >> General >> Trucks" and "Historical >> Freight Equipment >> General >> Appliances (Latches, etc.)?"
Under the present set-up, a similar set of branches would be needed under "Cabooses," "Passenger Cars," "Maintenance of Way," and so on, but this would present someone searching for information with a logical path to find threads and information.

Another option would be to have entirely separate sub-forums under "General." One would be for "Appliances (Latches, etc.)." It would be understood the one for "Trucks" would include trucks for all car types (and even locomotives).

The most direct, and certainly the best way would be to simply start a "Trucks" thread. If it grows, and gets complicated the issue of forum structure can be addressed.

As per George's great suggestion I have started a new thread under the General-Historical Category entitled "Freight, Passenger, and Caboose Trucks" with the following opening message:

"This thread is for posting questions, comments, and pictures relating to freight, passenger, and caboose trucks including cars and locomotives used by the Frisco Railroad."

Please post all related subject matter there.

    Thanks George:)

Great! I fully support the "trucks" thread.

And, as you suggest, perhaps there should be another thread, separate from trucks, for freight and passenger car details, of which there is a vast plethora in number.

As per Ken's great suggestion I have started a new thread under the General-Historical Category entitled "Freight Car, Passenger Car, and Caboose Details" with the following opening message:

"This thread is for posting anything related to details applied to freight cars, passenger cars, and cabooses either by the manufacturer or the Frisco RR itself."

Please post all related subject matter there.

    Thanks George:)

    Howdy folks,

Sorry I didn't chime in earlier. I've had a stomach bug that kept me in bed for almost a week! Today is the first day I felt like typing on a computer.

About the thread idea...a thread is fine, but if you would like the subforum approach, let me know. It would be easy to put a subforum for Appliances, Trucks, etc.

    Best regards,
    mike
