Yes indeedy. I have slid down that slippery slope so many times I've formed a rut. I cannot wait to see some construction pictures. Good luck.
Let us hop into the Way Back Machine and take a look at the Frisco depot in Olathe, KS circa 1909. These two photos come to us via a friend of mine, Roger Ziegenhorn, of Olathe, KS. One is a stand-alone photograph and the other is the front side of a picture postcard dated July 25th, 1909. The depot sat between Mahaffie and Church Streets, between Park and Loula. The building in the background has a sign that reads Hancock Hay, Coal & Grain.
Jackpot! Keith, thanks to you and Mr. Ziegenhorn for the photos. This older depot was a bit too daunting for me to try to model right now. I'm going with the later, rectangular depot on our layout, but these photos are especially interesting to see what was west of the depot. Positively spectacular. Someday, perhaps someone will find a photo of the old baggage house, which sat just to the south, left, of the old passenger depot. There are floor plan drawings for it among the depot floor plans via Mike Condren's website: http://condrenrails.com/Frisco/Station Floor Plans/Kansas Stations/KS.Olathe.pdf The depot itself is located at http://condrenrails.com/Frisco/Station Floor Plans/Kansas Stations/KS.Olathe2.pdf Does your friend have any ties to Sikeston? Seems that there used to be some Ziegenhorns from there, maybe a county commissioner? Best Regards,
Another photograph of the "old" Olathe depot from the Barringer Collection. Not sure of the date but it would look to be anywhere 1930-1940s? https://www.flickr.com/photos/barrigerlibrary/12469974704/in/album-72157640650369164/ Best Regards,
