The discussion on Nichols junction has reminded me that I have a copy of Howard Fogg's night time rendering of Alco FA-1 SLSF 5217 passing westward through Nichols on a dark, cloudy night.

I have no place to use it so I offer it to any frisco.org member who is interested. It is unmounted, rolled, in very good shape and ready for mounting 16" x 22.5". Would be great mounted on the wall of your train room. See pic.

I have a mailing tube I can send it in. Send a check for $14 which includes shipping. FYI, I no longer use PayPal.

    If interested, send to:

  2. A question that I'm wondering if anyone can dig up the information for. Nichols was originally established as Junction City in 1882. It was later changed to Nichols Junction in honor of Captain Danton R. Nichols (he was a superintendent of the Frisco in the 1800s). Does anyone know when the name was changed? The 1890 Springfield City Directory already refer to it as Nichols Junction.

The first appearance of Junction City that I could find is Dec 1877. A February 1881 PTT lists Nichols.

  4. Thank you. I think the source with the 1882 date is probably wrong. I appreciate this information. I was looking for a possible date that Nichols Street was named such since it goes from Downtown Springfield to Nichols Junction.
