    To All:

Kadee has announced yet another road number for the wonderful 40' PS-1 boxcar. I hope that we can all agree that this model represents probably the benchmark for modern day highly detailed models. I might be wrong but I believe that this is the 7th road number for this car which now include 5 road numbers in the "Ship it on the Frisco" and 2 road numbers in the "Frisco Fast Freight" scheme.
This car represents the "Ship it on the Frisco" scheme with a black roof and silver roof walk. The Kadee stock # is 5312 and the road number is 19034. It carries a suggested MSRP of $36.95 and a delivery date in February.

Yep - I heard from Kadee's "Sam the Answer Man" today with the same news. Kadee is not a bunch of dummies. They continue to go back to one of their proven cash cows - the Frisco 40ft PS-1 in either the "Fast Freight" or "Ship it" scheme. They sell very well.

Many of you might not be aware that the very first Kadee Frisco 40ft PS-1, SLSF 18299 (Kadee #5206), in the "Ship it" scheme, for a long time held the record for the fastest sell-out for Kadee's line of PS-1 HO boxcar models. No wonder, it is simply a beautiful car and a beautiful model. It is all oxide red - roof, roof walk, ends, and all.

ps - I'll bite, will certainly order one.

There are more HO Frisco Kadee cars than what Bob mentioned. Years ago, when all this started, I promised Sam I would buy at least one of every Frisco HO car they produced in this series. I think I have kept my word - I bought more than one of some of them (such as SLSF 18299).

Here they are, in order of Kadee's model numbers. Note this is not necessarily in the order they released them, or in SLSF road number order. This should confirm why I call the Frisco cars in this series one of Kadee's cash cows!

KD 5102, 40ft box, SLSF 17549, "FFF" (the second car)
    KD 5110, 40ft box, SLSF 17315, "FFF"
    KD 5113, 40ft box, SLSF 17554, "FFF"
    KD 5117, 40ft box, SLSF 17439, "FFF"
    KD 5118, 40ft box, SLSF 17700, "FFF"
    KD 5119, 40ft box, SLSF 17691, "FFF"
    KD 5124, 40ft box, SLSF 17998, "FFF"
KD 5206, 40ft box, SLSF 18299, "Ship it" (the first car)
KD 5235, 40ft box, SLSF 18194, "Ship it"
KD 5254, 40ft box, SLSF 19073, "Ship it"
KD 5293, 40ft box, SLSF 19034, "Ship it"

..... seven "FFF" cars, and four "Ship it" 40ft box cars. And now we have KD 5312, SLSF 19034, "Ship it" coming.

Later tonight I'll post all of the Kadee Frisco 50ft PS-1 box cars, PS-2 2-bay covered hoppers, and 2-bay offset side hoppers.

Somebody let me know if I have missed one!

Thanks Ken for doing the work and research!!

Too bad Sam couldn't talk Kadee into doing some Frisco Locos as well huh? I like about everything Kadee has ever done. Good stuff.

    Ken:

Thanks for he update of the 40 ft. Boxcars. I had no idea they had produced 4 road numbers in the "FFF" scheme. I knew they had done 2 and I bought one of them and later sold it. I still wish thy would offer they modern version with the large coonskin and no roofwalks. Now I wish they would choose to do the modern version with the large coonskin and no roofwalks. They have already done at least one this way and maybe more. Reference the picture of the 50' GM&O version below.

So far, Kadee (HO) has done seven 40ft "FFF" PS-1's, plus four - soon to be five, 40ft "Ship it" PS-1's, and four 50ft "Ship it" PS-1's. Kadee has been good to the Frisco. And, the buyers have been good to Kadee. This is a greater number of 40ft cars than Kadee has done for most all the other roads.

I wish they would do another 2-bay standard offset hopper, but they might not. Sam sounded like Kadee was concerned they could not do this car with the correct bottom outlet locks for the Frisco.

Ken, I have also been collecting Kadee cars over the years and have all the ones that you have listed. I believe that your list is complete.

Looking at the Kadee website, they list a different road number than what appears in the photo but may be using a stand-in from the last run. However, they list it as having a 6' door which doesn't seem right.

Bob, I too would like to see them make a modernized 40 footer, but looking through their releases, all of them have roofwalks and full length ladders. Maybe a 50 footer? They seem to be reluctant to introduce cars with major variations.

One idea I have would be to make a box car from the 19200-19899 series, which might only involve different graphics, that is, addition of the "DF-2" logo:

Rich - Yeah, I saw the likely alternate number on the Kadee website. That's OK with me - SLSF 18xxx something. You are right on the 6ft door mention - likely a Kadee typo. I think the 40ft PS-1's all had an 8ft door - usually Youngstown. Anybody know if that is not the case?

Good idea on the DF-2 version. Still has the roofwalk, grabs, and high brake wheel, which Kadee will be better satisfied with. For some reason they have resisted doing modern, no roofwalk, low brake wheel cars in this series. Might be that they don't want to have to do a new B-end. Would be a good topic for a discussion with Sam. Were they built with the DF-2 system in it? Kadee will want a builders photo, or a fresh repaint photo to base the car on. Bad looking paint on the one in your photo!

Ken, on the top of page 60 in Nicholas Molo's Frisco/Katy Color Guide to Freight Equipment is a photo of one of the 40 footers with the DF-2 loaders, though the roofwalk has been removed and the ladders cut down. He states "At least 113 cars had loaders installed starting sometime in the early sixties, the balance of cars in the group remained XM's. Note there is also a small ball and bar symbol on the door with a 'DF' within".

I just ordered the latest Kadee 40ft PS-1 "Ship it", be it SLSF 19034, or SLSF 18883, or whatever.
