I have a copy of a list of Pullman Tourist cars which werepurchased in the mid ‘50’s for use as MOW cars (bunk, kitchen, diner, officecars). Not sure where I got it. Under the column “Assign” are the following listings: B & B #1 Central Div. B & B #3 (two entries; Southern Div. and Northern Div.) B & B #5 Southwestern Div. B & B #17 Eastern Div. B & B #9 (three entries; Texas Div. Southwestern Div. and Eastern Div.) C & S D.G. (eighteen entries 20 Eastern Div., 30 Eastern Div., 100Eastern Div., 110 Eastern Div., 209 Central Div., 216 Central Div., 229 CentralDiv., 309 Southwestern Div., 329 Southwestern Div., 349 Southwestern Div., 513 Northern Div., 524 Northern Div., 534 NorthernDiv., 543 Northern Div., 567 Northern Div., 609 Southern Div., 729 River Div.and 739 River Div.) M.G. (five entries; 941-A River Div., 941-Unit A, 942-UnitB, 943-Unit C and 945-Unit E) S.M.G. (five entries 941-Unit A, 942-Unit B, 943-Unit C, 945-UnitE and 945 (without a Unit)) Steel Bdge #900 System Conc. Gang X.G. 780 River Div. Can anyone tell me what do the acronyms stand for? What to the numbers mean? What do the Units mean? Does Bdge mean bridge? Does Conc. mean concrete?
Larry, B&B = Bridge & Building C&S = Communication & Signal D.G. = District Gang. It looks like each gang had a # with the # representive of the division they were on. The eastern division must have used 10 through 190. Then so on for each division. M.G. = Mechanized Gang S.M.G =System Mechanized Gang Conc. gang = Concrete Gang XG = extra gang Did I get them right William? Hope this helps. Jerome-OKC
Jerome, I think you are right on target. The numbers might be a gang number or maybe a line segment. Like the X.G. is Extra Gang, Gang Number 780, and works on the River Division. Some of it, I can't quite figure out. William Jackson
