The lights were fun to install. I need to Fix the head lights thought, I'm not sure what's wrong with them. Terry, not sure what would cause that problem. Firewall maybe? Maybe some one will have a better answer. And there's also google you can try. Ethan
I used 1.2mm 1.5v bulbs on all the lights. I find they work better for these small locations as compared to LED's that others like to use. Ethan
Ethan, I see gray roadbed now. Have you switched to Atlas true track or what? I'm used to seeing the black (I believe powerlocs) track in your pics/vids. I just "pulled up" my old powerlocs and eztrack and went back to flex track. I'll never look back. I seriously considered true track but when I compared costs I reverted to code 100.
Well, I had flex track at one point, but it was causing more derailments than what it was worth. So I went back to ez track. Ethan
Ethan--If you like E-Z Track, you ought to try a few pieces of Kato Unitrack just to sample it. It's REALLY trouble free! TG
Pardon my ignorance as I've never used the snap together, plastic road bed, track system but what was causing the derailments on the flextrack? I've never heard of anyone switching from flextrack to the EZ Track style due to the realism aspect.
I never could figure out why the flex track kept causing derailments. I even completely took it up and relayed it and didn't slove any problems, actually made them worse. So that's why I went back to the EZ track. It's a problem with the cars I'm having now, cause every thin else runs fine through there. Ethan
Model Train Videos F units on a Drag Freight Trying this embedding thing again, I'll tell you I just aint getting it, despite some help from a few well meaning very capable folks. Need to update this vid as it was made before the scenic shell and crossings were put in. Tom Holley
There's isn't anything more frustrating than unexplained derailments or trouble embedding videos. Very frustrating situations.
I messed up a did something right on the embedding video thing Jim. Please dont ask me how I did it I do have this one boxcar that derails for no reason that I can see. I have given careful and due consideration to putting it atop a fence post and shooting with the largest caliber rifle I have. Tom Holley
Do you have an NMRA gauge. One of the handiest investments I've made so far. Could be wheels out of gauge, rails out of gauge, truck screwed on too tight, one rail lower than the other to name a few things that I've found in the past. If those fail to resolve things I've got a .62 cal flintlock jaeger rifle
That's what I saying, all the guages are right. I mean it is just one car in a 50-60 car train and it will derail. We on occasion will go entire op session running many hundreds of cars and not have a single stinkin derailment, then this cars goes on the ground. I have changed trucks, wheels, shimmed. I mean there is only the 30-06 test left. Tom Holley
Thought I would try a video post so here we go again This was made over the last several days. Thanks for watching. Tom Holley I hope you enjoy. You can blame Ethan for getting me started
That was so cool watching those Frisco trains! The lighting effects, sound, weathering and scenery not to mention the excellent track work. Thanks for posting that. I'm going to watch it again.
I'm always glad to see videos out of you. Love seeing your large variety of motive power and rolling stock. Keep it up Ethan
What's really amazing about Tom's layout and trains is how realistic the engines and cars ROLL! Smooth as silk. Not a single wobble in either train! His notes at the end of the video explain why. Car weights, balanced motors etc. Tom G.
Thanks Guys, Thanks for the comments, I have a tire dealer down the road a bit that sells me 25lb boxes of those tape on lead wheel weights at cost +10%, I have went thru about 75 lbs now. Found it much easier and faster to add weights to cars this way when I can, instead of gluing bolts and stuff in them.
Westerfield kits and a reworked RTR car. The train is headed back towards Brownwood from Zalma and is seen coming out of the cut and rolling through Greenbrier. Just having some fun running trains.
