Hey Y'all, Today I took a chance and ordered for the first time, some tools from MicroMark. I have heard about a 50/50 split for/against them, especially the issues surrounding legitimacy of patent rights. Who here has used MicroMark and how has the experience been? Thanks, Manny
Like Terry, several orders from them, good service, lots of different tools available. Will order from them again, as need arises.
I have ordered from the many times. I have had nothing but great service from them. I usually wait until they have a sale and then stock up. You can find just about anything they sale elsewhere but they are very convienient to order from. The have Great Customer service and fast shipping. Their owner is MMR #418. I am MMR #419. They do have an ongoing problem with a patent issue with NWSL I believe. That does concern me. I was a customer of theirs before all of this happened and I have always been treated well by them. They are great to do business with. Bob Wintle MMR 419 Parsons, Ks.
I echo all of the above statements and comments. I would suggest that you sign up for their Internet mailing llist as they do offer sales throughout the year. Also, Bob Wintle made the comment about stocking up on sales and if I remember correctly they have a huge sale every summer here everytrhing in the catlog is on sale. You can always find useful tools from them that are hard to locate otherwise.
They're great to deal with. I've bought a lot of small stuff and even bought the 7x14 lathe and some tooling and they are as advertised. I'm at the age where I get a Micro-Mark catalog and a hearing aid ad in the mail almost every week.
This is all good to know. There are several power tools I am interested in and to hear folks have bought some and have had great success is comforting. I ordered some brass clamps, the 10" magnetic gluing board, 3/16 and 5/16 corner punches, and pipettes. More tools to follow shortly.
Huh? I get every Micromark catalog and spend the hearing aid money on tools! Seriously, I have bought a lot of stuff from them. Some of them I use a lot: 80893 Plastic modeler's chisel 84386 Sprue cutter 83261 Thin beam square 81778 Touch-N-Flow glue applicator (a must for gluing styrene pieces) 82466a Scratch Brush 21110 Straight hemostat 80334 High precision micro-shear 83251 Rubber tipped tweezer 26104 Micro drill bit set 81497 Pin vise set 82556 Digital caliper 10116 Model railroad ruler 52389 Optivisor That's just what I use frequently that I have bought through them
"Tried to say?"I have had good service from them also. I was grateful to find those cardboard strips, that alone, has saved me many ours of time. Tom Holley
Over a modeling period of fifty years, I have purchased just about everything Micro-Mark sells, and with the exception of one circle cutter, I am totally satisfied with their products and service. As far as things go, I purchased the original riveter from NWSL, and it was so poorly made, i throw it away, and bought the one Micro-Mark makes; hands down, a exceptional tool that works correctly.
Thank you so much everyone for your input. Keith, thanks for the list. I went and put most of that stuff in my wish-list for future orders. Definitely some good stuff. Richard, I have the original NWSL Sensi-Press and Riveter albeit I haven't used it yet. I'd be interested to hear why you thought it was so poorly made.
I'll add to the scratched record effect. All good, nothing bad to report from here. I especially like my pounce wheels for emobossing rivets. They've taken a beating and still work wonderfully. Best Regards,
the lead of the screw used to advance the reviter had so much slope in it, the tool was useless. The replacemnt I got from Micro-Mark is very well made with no lead in the screw making it a very accurate tool.
Hey Manny, One of the tools I got from them is called a "nibbler" they have a 'manwell" version as well as powered. It is a great tool to own, as it will bite its way through the plastics and metals we model with, it is great for cutting out square holes for windows, doors and such. Use my nibbler all the time, well, more than a guy would think anyway. Tom Holley
Thanks Tom. I will check that out. I got the 3 and 5/16" corner punches. I'll go look for the nibbler now! Manny Addition: Just checked it out. MicroMark 81477 Nibbling Cutter. Cuts plastic and metal 3/32'd at a time, up to 1/16th thick medium. Definitely on the wish list. I can see this being very useful in making locomotive cabs out of styrene. Attention Jim James!!!!
FYI: www.scalehardware.com has an interesting site for nuts and bolts and things. Found on the www.proto48.org site. Joe Toth
I received my order today. The box was poorly sealed and broken open. Fortunately all parts were there. I politely called customer service and talked to them and all is good. Nice tools. More to order very soon. Manny
