Recently I traveled to Lepanto, AR. There is a historical museum there with no photographs of the depot. This depot was also Railway Express agency. The rails have been removed along with the depot. Cotton and the Frisco were important parts of this town. I remember playing at the depot as a child. Unfortunately I cannot print a picture from my mind to give the museum. My grandfather was the agent. I remember how grateful he was for his employment. Does anyone have photographs, postcards? Thanks!
Interesting. I used to sign the same way. His middle name was different than mine but never the less a C initial.
Marion, I could not help but notice your Great-Grandmother's maiden name of Ballew. My wife has relatives in her dad's family whose surname was Ballew.
Note he signed it on December 22, 1936, but in all probability he was hired on at an earlier date. When the Railroad Retirement Act, and I think Social Security Act, became law the employees filled out this card.
The town changed from a nice little town to nearly a forgotten one. I could find no history of the depot nor the railway. Still looking for historical photographs.
Not an artist but, this is to the basic shape of the depot. Is there anyone that has pictures of depots with this shape?
Not being a railroad guy I cannot speak to the term Sanborn map. However, what I see does not represent the Lepanto depot. I understand that Sanborn maps are supposed to be representative of town layouts.
Sanborn maps, a bit of history is described in the link below. https://www.loc.gov/rr/geogmap/sanborn/san4a1.html They have been around since the 1860s. Not just a railroad term or appliance, they are an invaluable resource for historical information.
