Time for our Friday Night Update thread!

Another week... GONE. What have you done???

With my hobby time this week, I:

    * Started decaling my Frisco SW9 into the "Full Stripe" scheme. Man, it's been over a decade since I've decaled this scheme. It's KICKING MY BUTT! Eegad keeping these stripes lined up! Can't believe I used to do this in tiny ol' HO scale.

    * Have studied some options for "fixing" the trucks on my Baldwin S12. Don't know for sure yet.

    * Received my first AM GP9/7. Wow... compared to the little S scale switchers I'm used to seeing... these sucker's are HUGE.

    * Received my SHS Undec F3 Ph2 A/B today. Elegant model. Haven't taken the time to really oogle it and see how it runs. (Instead I'm decaling the SW from Hell.)

    * Off and on while the Walther's Solva-set has been drying, I've also investigated the C&O in V scale, including extracting the Digital Elevation Models and generating some of the terrain in the simulator. Wow... RUGGED mountains.

    * Ordered a round of C&O books and stuff to learn more about it.

    There you have it!

Now, what have YOU been doing?

Well between trips for my employer, I have been adding more drops. My layout quit working and I just came back in the house after figuring out that I accidently wired my engine terminal into the reversing section for the turntable. I knew I should have wired the turntable with a different set of colors. Oh well live and learn. I fix it tomorrow.
I am also working on decaling a MKT RS3m, and we won't discuss how bad that is going. I am going to heavily weather it so it will do. I also installed a Soundtraxx Tsunami decoder in it and it sounds GREAT! I purchased an Athearn Genesis MP15AC this week and will be installing a sound decoder in it in the next couple of weeks. I discovered that the new Athearn RTR SW1500's have the same motor as their Genesis line which to me is Great News. They are both sweet looking locos.
I have also been working on ballasting more track. I bought another bag yesterday and hopefully will get it laid this weekend.
I look forward to hearing what more of you are up to and sincerely hope that you are enjoying our hobby as much as I am.
    Until the next time.
    EL Bob Oh signing off.

I came home a bit early--it's Friday and I'm not a slave--and did some hammering and sawing. Now I've got to go buy some more paint in my "cabinetwork" color. Getting supports ready for the work crew to come over and put together the Van Buren Industrial Park peninsula. Tomorrow morning is operating time on the GN/NP, but hope to paint in pm and do more prep work for the crew.
May also get the peninsula for first KCS trackage started if I can figure out how I'm supporting it. And I think I just had a brainstorm, which for carpentry is dangerous after two cervesas.

Got the main line relaid, and am awaiting a trip to the local Lowe's for a drill bit so's I can run feeder wires down thru the benchwork on my HCD layout.

Found the rest of my N scale diesels and rolling stock at home, and have it all back in Muskogee now. After tallying my power roster, I now have 2 GP38s, one GP38-2, two GP15-1s, one B30-7, one U25B and a VO1000 in Frisco colors. Now, understanding that one can never have enough motive power, I have more than plenty to operate my small layout in the same manner as the A&A Sub.

Got two DVDs from Pentrex in the mail, and just looked at the V&O Afton Sub Finale. Still awesome modeling by a real master, and still sad to know the layout nno longer exists in its entirety.

By this time next week, I hope to be running trains again.:D

What have I done this week? Nothing. I have been busy with football, and the fair came to town so I've been out till 10:30 at night. Then tonight was the first varsity game. Don't worry, I have plans of next week. Tuesday (the 1st) I'm off probation from buying train stuff. So Tuesday I plan on buying track for a new layout.

It was my DAD that put me on probation. I had bought a bunch of stuff this winter and spring. 3 locos, 12 freight cars, DCC, a grain elevator, and a dummy loco. There was some other minor things. So September I'm off probation.

First time poster. Long time lurker.

I have begun laying track...Pike name has been Gulf Southwestern for years. Thinking about renaming to St Louis-Missouri-Texas (SLMT) for my two favorite roads.

Layout is three shelves (8.5 x 2, 14 x 2, and 18 x2, connected at the open end by a 4 x 1 "bridge section"). I've got almost all of the track on the 14' section down.

I've pretty much completed a Walther's freight house as the first structure for this area. Next up, an Elevator, Feed Mill and Livestock pens.

As an aside, does anyone have a picture of a VO-1000 with class ligts for branch line duty?

Also, guess what Andre...one of your B/Y Front Range GP-7s is alive and well in Tulsa!

    All for now.

After a track cleaning session I decided to test my new lens and do a little railfanning on the Avard Sub. For some reason I keep seeing the same power on this Sub. Go figure????

So tiring of seeing the same old power I jumped in my trusty
"Way Back Machine" to see what I could find

HW, You have to stop doing that!
Every time you post photo's like these, spittle drools out of the corner of my mouth. What a great group of models.
I have to ask: "Whose make is that FP7?" The details and the weathering is outstanding = looks great!

Even the winterizing hatch doesn't look all that bad on the 533.:D

    Frisco2008:

Wow! Some of my older stuff has really gotten around, hasn't it? Wonder how many scale miles some of it has run????

    HWB:

That Athearn F7 looks pretty cool! Thanks for sharing some pics!

    Rick Mc (Pronounced Rick Mick?):

Jealous of the Witchita guys getting to come up and have some fun on your layout. From what I read it sounds like you do a great job of hosting a session. Have you considered moving closer to AR/OK? :D

Old 533 is the first model I painted. It was painted with a spray can of stenciling ink! It's an Athearn that I had to remove the dynamic brake blisters. At the the time I didn't know about winterizing hatches

I spent Friday night assembling a bunch of recently purchased older Roundhouse and Athearn rolling stock kits, but ran out of Kadees at number 15. I'm glad that I had the presence of mind 20-odd years ago when I was a college student to install Kadees on all the kits (about 100) I bought and built back then.
