Intermountain is now showing both HO and N-scale FP7s in 4 road numbers and F7Bs in 3 road numbers in Black and Yellow paint for December/January delivery. http://www.imrcmodels.com/newsmay2010flyers.htm http://www.imrcmodels.com/newsncomingsoon.html It will be interesting to see if these actually see the light of day, since the Orange and white versions were cancelled..... Paul
Good grief! The IRC pics still show the Frisco F7B with dynamic brakes! What do we have to do to convince them that is all wrong? Ken
Good question. My guess is this is a photo from the prior run, but I just sent Intermountain an e-mail asking them about the dynamic brake fans. Paul
There are 2 more problems with the B unit: the Frisco name should be centered and the number is at the wrong end. Rich
Intermountain has confirmed the B units will not have dynamic brakes. Here is the portion of their reply indicating this is the case: I've never heard anyone mention the name and number placement issue, but looking at the few photos I can find Rich appears to be correct. I'll send a follow up asking about the name and number placement. Paul
When I bought the A unit I didn't buy the b unit because of the dynamic brake issue. I am wondering how the Intermountain b unit would compare with the Genesis F3 that could be modified as an F7 b unit? I have several genesis b units with the intention of modifying some for F7s and one as an F9b.
The Intermountain F7B is good (except for the d/b!), but the Genesis F3B is the better model. Sharper details. The Genesis is based on the Highliner body shell - best "eff's" ever in my opinion. The Genesis lettering & numbering font is also much better. Ken
Thanks, Ken. Sounds like a little work on my genesis Fs is the direction I will go and save some money. Terry
I've had an FP7A and F7B in B/Y on pre-order since November. It was supposed to be released Jan. 2011. I just checked Intermountain's website and they are showing a release date of April 2011. Could anyone out there shed some light on the reason for delay? Any chance it'll be pushed back further? Should I go ahead and order the sound decoders now? Just curious...and a little impatient.
My FP-7's were pre-ordered in JUNE! I'm hearing April (Mostly other peoples' guesses and the IM website), we'll see...Agree with Rich on the incorrect lettering and numbers (At least from the pictures on their website). But don't get me started on Intermountain. I offered them plans, photos, references and specs for the Frisco and Katy FP-7's, and got only a fuzzy email from the "office guy" who said he'd turn over my offer to whoever was in charge of the project?? Got a lot more interest from Wheels Of Time, Matthew took some of my suggestions into consideration and he's offering some Frisco baggage cars this Summer. Tom
Here's a lettering guide to the B/Y Frisco road freight diesels: EMD A-Units: (F-3, F-7, FP-7): "FRISCO" centered between doors (horizontally) and resting just above lower stripe. Numbers to the front of the cab door, resting just above lower stripe and slightly forward of upper stripe. EMD B_Units: "FRISCO" centered between doors (horizontally) and resting just above lower stripe. Numbers centered between foward door and grab irons at front of unit and resting just above lower stripe. ALCO FA's: "FRISCO" just to rear of engine room door, resting just above lower stripe. Numbers just to the front of the cab door and not extending further front than upper stripe and centered between stripes (vertically). ALCO FB's: "FRISCO" just rear of engine room door, resting just above lower stripe. Number centered in first panel to front of engine room door and resting just above lower stripe.
Well, it will be a little aggrevating if they don't get the look exactly right. However, I think I've made peace with myself when it comes to the look of my railroad. I think I'm ok with backing off from the "Prototypical or nothing" mentality and just having fun with what's available. Bottom line, if they have crisply painted lines and lettering and the decoders sound ok, then I'm going to be really happy as they run around the benchwork.
Ethan, I think you hit on the nub of the problem that's often given me fits. To buy a slightly-off-prototype RTR model, or spend the time to painstakingly work on a project to get it precise. And, finding one's comfort zone helps a lot of the other modeling questions fall into place. For my money, it's more fun to try to get the model exactly right, but then again, at my modeling pace, that all but mandates that I focus on modeling lower-density branch lines. Best Regards,
Well the wunnerful Intermountain Railway Company has moved back the delivery date of their Frisco FP-7 (+ F-7B) in the black and yellow scheme...AGAIN! This time to August-September!! I looked back at my pre-order and it was dated March 4th, Year Of Our Lord 2010! That would mean, should the delivery actually happen in August, It would only have taken seventeen months for Intermountain to whip out the Frisco FP-7 order! Amazing... Tom
On another note, the Micro-Trains N scale Frisco diesel tank cars were a pleasant surprise. I got mine today and they're virtually perfect! All black, yellow dome, picture perfect lettering, two road numbers. There are a couple of 1970's car reader marks that can be covered with a small brush (You guys that model the later era and know all about that stuff can just leave it alone). The car is a dead ringer for the AC&F builder's photo that's posted elsewhere on this chat board. TGFMT (Thanks goodness for Micro-Trains)! Tom
I wanted those too. Although that paint scheme does not seem to be popular, I would have bought them. Charlie
I gave up on Intermountain when they released the HO F7B's in 2007 with dynamic brakes, in spite of being told by several of us, including me, that no Frisco F7 type ever had d/b. I wonder if they ever do release the HO FP7 and F7B set in o/w (ugh!) if the F7B will still have that fan up there? Ken
Intermountain Frisco FP-7's (Black amd yellow scheme) has been pushed back again, (Yawn) this time to December (December 2011 hopefully). Tom
