I ran across this website created by a man named Mark Gurries that contains a wealth of information including links to other DCC related sites. He covers DCC topics in general and NCE is particular. Mark is also credited as being one of the two people responsible for creating JMRI (Decoder Pro). Enjoy! https://sites.google.com/site/markgurries/home
Thanks, Bob and by the way, JMRI has released version 3.0. As usual it's a free download. I'll download it tonight
Having now installed some 30 decoders into my locomotive fleet, I can tell anyone interested that the trickiest part of converting to DCC is not layout wiring (unless your wiring is dicey to begin with). It is installing decoders, particularly if your power is 20th Century, meaning old enough that "plug and play" is not an option so that you have to hard-wire the installation. To keep from getting weirded out, I limited myself to one decoder per day. The other important thing is that you MAKE SURE you have the right decoder for the application. I relied on the advice of a dealer who was a little unsure of himself and wound up with some decoders not designed for the locomotive I was working on. If you are uncertain, call the manufacturer so you do not waste time and money trying to force-fit the wrong thing. GS
I have installed hundreds of decoders so far, although most of them Soundtraxx Tsunami sound. Anyone wishing advice or insight feel free to send me a PM or post the question in the DCC section of the forum. Keith has installed all of the sound decoders on my locomotive fleet. His work is impeccable, his prices very reasonable, and his custom sound chambers truly make the locomotives come to life. I highly recommend him.
