I'm new here. My grandfather retired from the Frisco, his name was Glenn Wesley Travis. He worked as a conductor and a brakeman. He lived in Fort Scott, Pittsburgh, and Cherokee KS. I have most of his collection of railroad equipment and his model train collection. I'm mostly into scale plastic model aircraft and armor. I also like HO scale trains.
Glenn, welcome to the group! We look forward to any stories you may have from your Grandfather. Meanwhile, take a look around; there's a lot of interesting stuff and friendly, helpful folk. Best Regards,
Glenn: Welcome to the forum. I noticed on your profile that your area of interest is Southeast Kansas. There are a umber of very knowledgeable people that are members that either model that area, research it, or both. Having said that, my first suggestion to you would be to start doing searches for towns of interest in that area. Start with Cherokee for instance and work from there. Don't forget to search Carona as even though it wasn't a Frisco town per se there are pictures of the fan trip taken to there in conjunction with the first Frisco Festival in 2009, etc. That should keep you busy for a couple of days! Enjoy!
Glenn - Welcome to the group, many fine modelers here. I started in modeling the Frisco in HO in 1961, but during the period 1974-1977, while we lived in Cincinnati, I took a break and got into 1/72 scale model aircraft building. My goal was to model every German Luftwaffe aircraft that was in 1/72 (there are a bunch!). I got about half-way there, but then reverted back to HO when we moved back to St Louis and my son also got interested in the SLSF. I sold off most of the airplanes, but still have about fifteen unbuilt kits. Ken
