Can anyone tell me where to acquire a large quantity of foam like they use in the boxes for bachmann spectrum locomotives? I want to try a new method of roadbed. I think it might be effective and flexible to lay track on. I have been tol Cork is the WAY TO GO, an homasote has to be special ordered here in my locale. So I figured I might be able to find something inexpensive, yet effective. Anyone have any input on this? Thank you in advance!!!!!!!
Open cell foam as you suggest would not be a good choice as it is entirely too flexible and expensive. Take a look at some of the discussion already here: http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?5426-Q-How-to-lay-track
If your layout, like mine is to be located in a garage where the garage door is left in, I would not recommend it. The little critters called mice will seek it out. They love it and will destroy it even if it is ballasted. You don't even want to know what they like to do with trees made from ground foam. What a mess.
