This is a QA&P coal train made from MDC Bathtube Gons and Thrall Gons for a make believe power plant at Roaring springs Texas.
QA&P owned cars, with with re-furbished, Dynamic brake equipped SD40's and pooled BN C-33/36/30 -7's. are dragging this train into nincompoop loop.

Very nice job on all of that. Impressive fleet of bath tubs too. I thought the caboose at the end was a nice touch, but I never knew that the cupola was to short to see over a bathtub gondola.

Ethan - Most caboose cupolas were not tall enough to see over the top of modern freight cars - clearance restrictions. The crew generally observed their train by looking out the side windows. That situation led to the introduction of bay window cabs on some roads, including the SLSF.

ps - Tom, sure does look good to see SLSF/QAP black & yellow leading those "gangreen" BN units, with a Frisco cab on the tail end. Nice!

    Thanks Guys for the comments.
Ethan, I shimmed the cupola on that Atlas caboose up .060 with styrene and matched the paint, as they are way too short from Atlas, I believe. I remember someone saying that the Atlas caboose was modeled after an Eastern RR that had short cupolas for like Ken said, clearance restrictions.
Thought I was gonna go crazy before all the decaling was finished on these cars.:D
Ken, you can bet those EMD's are doing all the work here, and at least one of those GE's is just along for the ride:D

    Tom -

How true (re the Atlas HO cupola height). I just took a quick measurement on my Overland brass SLSF 1244 and also one of the Atlas cabs, SLSF 252. The Overland measures 3 feet from the roofwalk to the peak of the cupola while the Atlas same measurement is only 2 feet, a 1 foot difference. To be fair, the Atlas does have a thicker roofwalk. I'd say the actual measurement above the roof to the peak is 6"-9" taller on the Overland.

How much cupola height did you add to the Atlas with the shims?

I'd never noticed this on the Atlas w/v model. When you set one along side the Overland, the difference is quite obvious. I'm assuming the Overland is correct - I do have an International Car drawing around here somewhere. Of course, the Atlas cupola side windows are also incorrect.

I raised the cupola up .080 (6" in HO) used .060X.080 and just glued the styrene around the bottom of the cupola sanded it smooth and painted. It helped to put that Black decal down the side it helped to hide the seam;)
Seems I remember that if you raise it a foot, then all the end windows are too high, and it looked even more wrong. Sure wish someone would come out with a resin or the like cupola with the correct side windows and such. These would be nice Frisco cabooses then.
