A question perhaps the HO people in the group can comment on. Which decal set is your preference for Frisco HO heavyweight passenger cars (not the red & silver lightweight cars)?

    Ones I have used:
    - Champ Gold
    - Champ DuLuxe (?)
    - Walthers Gold
    - OddBalls Gold

Just curious. These days I am using only the Champ DuLuxe set. (Wish I could remember how to spell that). I like the yellow lettering better as that is what the Frisco cars carried when I was riding them, 1960 to the end. I used the Walthers gold set on my first Frisco passenger cars way back in the '60's. They were OK, and long gone now - along with the cars, but Champ's gold set is much better. I have used the OddBalls gold set twice, and was disappointed as the gold coloring is not very bold, looks faded on the car.

Champ's decal film seems thicker than most. IMHO, that is not a problem if you lay enough Microsol on it after the Microset treatment. The thick film makes them tough - I have never had a set fall apart on me, which has happened with Microscale, Herald King, and Oddballs (once, a very old set).

I agree that the champ decals are the best and have a better shelf life than any other. Older decals of ALL other brands I coat with the microscale liquid decal film before I use them as I have had many decals fall apart when trying to apply them. Champ is the only brand that I have never had fall apart. The trouble is that the champ decals are getting hard to find.

I have a large stock of HO decals, including a good supply of Champ. Many duplicates. If anyone is having trouble finding something, give me a shout and I'll take a look. I'll never use them all. In my earlier days, I had visions of doing diesels and cars for other folks, including the decaling. I did some, and people were happy with them, but it never turned into anything big. I was too busy with my career. Darn! ..... doing the models was a lot more fun!

Any decals for a Firefly set of cars ? Wondering about blowing them up to 1/29 scale. Might think about other heavyweights as well.
