Look at post #12 on this thread:
    http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?t=1575&page=2

    from that thread -
"I have used Testors 1104 red, Floquil ATSF red, and Scalecoat ATSF red (and Testors 1146 silver). I like Scalecoat because it leaves a good glossy finish that you can put decals on with out an additional gloss coat of paint. Floquil seems to be the paint of chose for most hobbyist and can be found at most hobby shops. However, I think I am going to stay with Testors (for streamlined passenger cars and E7/8’s). I like the color and the way it coats better than the other paints. But, as I said, I have used all three paints and if I put the different painted cars side by side you can not tell the difference."

Unless you're a VERY skilled custom painter, the Frisco "racehorse" E-unit would be a painting and decaling nightmare! I'd look for a factory Life-Like engine if I were you.

I thought it would be easy. This is how it works in my mind: paint the whole thing red and apply micro scale decals.

If anyone is still interested, the photos of my HO set are on page 10 of the swap section. Cars are painted, not lettered, and the diesels are incorrectly named. So much for my rivet counting 25 years ago!
Is $100.00 too much for all of it? Dan

Red is a fairly difficult color to match. I've not yet been able to satisfactorly match the shade of red on the P2K Frisco E-units for other than small added detail painting. This is one of the things holding up my "Frisco" Racehorse E8B completion.

    Any ideas would be appreciated!

Regarding painting your own Frisco E7's or E8's, as long as you don't want to run them with a P2K unit, I think ATSF red is close, perhaps darken it slightly. Use that, and decal the thing with the Herald King decal set(s) of your choice - you can do either the gold stripe, gold/white border stripe, or Duluxe gold stripe Racehorse versions. Microscale also makes a Frisco Racehorse E-unit decal set, but I don't think it is as good as the HK sets.

    Hi Glenn,
The locos are Riverossi. 1 is powered, the other unpowered. I painted and lettered them myself, about 25 years ago. As I have said, not correctly lettered- I was not even close as a rivet counter in those days.
The E-8 runs great, as it was test run on a friends layout. and run again only once with train about 10 years ago. My railroading saw a long hiatus.
The cars are all Concor, and I also painted them. They have never been lettered.
I used Champ decals on them, not the best attempt, but at arms length, fair.
I am now into large scale, so these will just sit in storage . I would rather see a Frisco fan get some good use out of them- they are classics!
    Take care,

Well, I visited one of my LHS. Picked up an L&N E-8 for $45.00 and a set of MS Texas Special decals, and a Genisis B unit chassis for $60.00

The shop name is E-Rail Hobbies, in Sand Springs, OK

He has lot's of $40.00 P2K BB GP-7s in Santa Fe Zebra stripes and a h couple of HiLiner B unit kits. Also several Stewart Phll U25Bs.

I have used Floquil Target Red in the past and it has worked very well. It is also covers somewhat better than other brands and you can use conventional lacquer thinner with an airbrush.
