Hi, My name is Vincent Huffman and I have lived in Indiana all my life. I for some reason was attracted to the MKT, MP, Frisco, and Kansas City as a modeler. We have had some great roads here in Indiana, but those are my preferences. I have been looking at the posts about the West Bottoms. Unfortunately my move to a bigger house resulted in smaller space for a railroad. I'm still kicking myself for agreeing to this. I have enough room for an N Scale model of the industrial area just north of Union Station and the KCT Engine Terminal. Its a whopping 4 feet by 9 feet. Oh, well. I appreciate everyone's posts and look forward to learning more about the Frisco. Oh, and by the way, I graduated from Purdue University first and Indiana University second. I am NOT a Hoosier. I am a Boilermaker.

    Great to be aboard.

    Welcome fellow Boilermaker. Hail Purdue!

I became a bit of a Monon fan while attending school there.

Vincent, welcome to the group. You'll find a wealth of information and a decent-sized pack of folks modeling KC and its environs.

    Best Regards,

Vicent, welcome aboard! I hope you find the Frisco nation is a friendly, helpful one. I will put our web site up against any other railroad historical/modeling web site out there. In just the two years that I have been involved the volume of information has grown dramatically but that growth was on top of the huge amount already present. Enjoy! If you ever find a time that you will be in the Kansas City area, let me know in advance - we will try to get you into an operating session at one of the many fine operating railroads we have here.

Thanks for having me. I have already found this forum so helpful it is so funny. Just about every question I have Kansas City seems to be here or a suggestion of how to find it is here. Joining this group is probably one of the smartest things I ever did! It will be a long time before we return to Kansas City. We have a 7 week old and a 21 month old. We are adjusting at the moment. The 21 month old is absolutely infatuated with my layout. Get 'em hooked young huh?

Hail Purdue! Did you ever travel to Monon, IN? Its pretty neat. One of the last times I was there with my Mac Tools tool truck, thank God that job is gone, I saw two BN SD70MAC Green and Cream Locomotives. It was a nice treat. Did you ever venture over to the CSX yard? The folks there were pretty understanding and would allow us to take pictures as long as we didn't cross the tracks. It was a shame the locomotive shop wasn't in use. That shop, the car shop, and the coaling tower always intrigued me. My best friend is building a Nickel Plate Layout. If he models Indy he is going to model the Monon yard and the Nickel Plate yards that were next to each other. I would imagine I will be the one populating the yard with Monon Locomotives. Most likely F3s and U23Bs if I can get away with it. He hates GEs. His dad retired from GM. I have owned nothing but Fords and touted the GE line for years. I don't do it to spite him, that's just what I prefer. Well, happy modeling!

I never made it to Monon, IN. Should have. I took some pics of the Monon coming through Battleground in 1968, but have no idea where the negs are. I did spend a few free moments at Shops, but never went into the yard. Purdue's chem engineering grad school kept me pretty busy!

The Monon was like the Frisco, lots of neat personality. I always liked seeing the semaphores on the ride up to Lafayette from Crawfordsville. I'm sure they are gone by now. Plus, using the school colors of Purdue and IU for their locomotives was a nice touch.
