Good Evening, An article by Tom Teeple, "A Frisco Special Service Gondola Freelance Kitbash/Modification Project" appears in the May 2015 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman. The article describes modifying an Athearn 52-ft mill gondola to become a converted (extended height) Darby Gondola 63500-63502 used in special service for hauling electrodes. Looks like a nice project for a 1970s-era modeler. -Bob T.
Thanks for the heads up! That magazine has a totally different feel to it now. Thicker, larger pages maybe. Reminds me of those UK based modeling magazines.
Need a copy of that. And very happy to see RMC being "carried on". Is there a link/phone# or address to RMC where someone could buy a subscription?
I went to their website and didn't find the article listed in the May 2015 issue of RMC? I'm confused, but I'd like to pick up a copy if it has the article. Here's the link: http://rrmodelcraftsman.com/contents/index.php
The article is the Dremel Kitbashing Article, page 90. It's not listed in the index. It's a nice play-by-play kit-bash article, four pages long. Tom G.
Also worth noting that Rick McClellan has an article in the April RMC issue. I will post on that one separately when I get home. Two Frisco-related articles in the same column in consecutive months. Nice.
I had completely forgotten about RMC's re-birth. Thanks for the link I just bought a 1 year subscription. As info after a phone call the lady on the other end of the line she said that "US 1 Year" is the printed version. As it was kind of confusing for me, and I want the printed version. Looking FWD to seeing Rick and the other folks work too.
I had wanted one of these gondolas for awhile but never took the time to do it and Tom was between projects so he agreed to build it for me. It has to be seen to really appreciate his craftmanship. A proud addition to my fleet. Larry F.
