    SLSF 101-111, ALCo RS-1 (AT&N)
    SLSF 550-554, ALCo RS-2

The ALCo RS-1s were powered by their reliable 539 engine, same as the S-2, and proved to be good units.

The RS-2s, however, were a different story.

They were powered by the relatively new ALCo 244 engine, and were a continuing source of trouble.

In 1959-60, the Frisco solved the engine problems with the RS-2s and had all five of them repowered at EMD with the trusty 567 engine.

From that point on, the RS-2ms were considered to be as useful as the EMD GP7.

    An update.

Attached is a diagram for the five SLSF ALCo RS-2ms after they were re-engined by EMD.

Note the new engine is an EMD 567-C, downrated to 1500 HP.

This diagram is from the Frisco Vest Pocket Diagram booklet, Rev H, from late 1960/early 1961.
