Frisco all scale data base

Modelers continually ask which models have been produced for the Frisco.

The GM&OHS has the best all scale model product date base that I have discovered on any of the historical society web sites. It lists everything from Z to G scale and includes locomotives, freight and passenger equipment and even motor vehicles!

Please go to their site and pull it up and see just how comprehensive the list is.

Surely we at Frisco can design a simular listing to aid all modelers in searching for specific models that have been produced by all of the manufacturers over the years. The GM&O site lists prototype models as well as the generics. How well old head model railroaders remember how it was 50 years ago in HO scale. Revell had a 50 ft. yellow flat car in their line and Varney had a 40 ft. double door boxcar. Most everything else was left up to Champ and Walthers decals.

    How times have changed.

I do not consider myself qualified to undertake such a task. I believe the Administrators have the savvy to get such a project up and running. I have just found a simular listing on the Mopac site as well. They also include a list of decals in all scales.

Regretfully, I live in Germany (Lame Duck Excuse) and my knowledge of model railroad products that have been produced for the Frisco is very shallow. A model railroad product date base should be of a professional nature as is the one provided by the GM&OHS for their members.

In all respect, I am somewhat new to the computer world so would prefer to let the experts tackle this project.

Some other sites have direct access to commonly-useful information like tables of locomotives, station photos, maps and track diagrams. That is very convenient.

This kind of information is also here on Frisco.org. However, since the board style is more dynamic and "in the moment" (at least this is the way I use it), there is no direct tabulation of items such as available models. On the other hand, a discerning reader following "New Posts" can get insightful comparison of a current model to similar ones of previous manufacture. This allows creation of a personal, temporary list. Temporary is good; it mirrors life!

Frisco.org compensates for the lack of direct-access tables by being very well organized with good division into sub-topics. Careful searching yields a wealth of information. Furthermore, users have shown enough excellent discipline to search and continue a thread rather than start a new one. This simplifies searching because only a few threads pop up on any search term.

Someday it would be nice to rearrange some of the information here into directly-accessible tables, and I have suggested something like that. However, I know this will take effort. Not the least is the first big step to specify (and agree!) how these tables should look. After that comes the real work that we hope never ends because of the long stream of Frisco models coming our way!

Knowing that, it is difficult to ask the folks here to work even harder without offering a concrete plan and the time to execute it.

Search and Find is fine but I have found myself opening a new thread when the information had already been posted elsewhere already. Granted, it would take the work of several qualified members to create an all scale product list but with the GM&O and Mopac societies having set up working lists it should at least be taken into consideration that Frisco comtemplate following suit when time permits.

Joe, there is no "organization" that will do this task. This forum is a collection of individuals, therefore an individual would need to take up part or all of the task. As Don Wirth indicated, it would be very time consuming and, since many models are no longer available except from someone's personal collection, would be a very daunting task if not nearly impossible. The best that could be done is to begin compiling what is currently available. Do you have the time? If not, then the matter will probably fall dormant.

It does appear that most Frisco modelers are interested in the current and forthcoming models and indeed, this is well represented on this site already. While the GM&O and Mopac model data base is interesting from a collectors standpoint, it looks to me like the Frisco modelers have their choice of a specific era that they are constructing their layouts to follow thus such a data base isn´t needed under these circumstances. Taking this into consideration it seems if a member is seeking a model that is no longer in production that other members are here to help find it.

The way Frisco members help one another on this site grows goose bumps on my arms. I wonder if the other societies have so many dedicated members eager to help one another? If they don´t they can certainly learn a lot from the Frisco Folks! Y´all are a great bunch!

Wow, I just typed in a search for Frisco Norge and the thread also shows the Table of Freight Equipment Sources! All listings are for HO scale but it appears there is a beginning here for a Product Data Base afterall!

It seems like some threads need to be updated since there is a new thread regarding the Varney/LifeLike Frisco Norge HO boxcars.

I've got a fairly comprehensive N Scale database. Another member has done a lot of work on this in N Scale as well.

    Thanks Charlie,

I have a bad habit of keeping up with all the scale models that come out featuring Frisco. Though it doesn´t look like there will be an all scale product page like the GM&O and Mopac sites offer I now know where to look for N scale Frisco models.

How much midnight oil did you burn? At today´s prices one must be careful just how much is burnt. I remember 25.9 cent regular at an Irving, Texas, Fina gas station in 1967! Noah filled up his ark there too!

Remember, the turtle still beat the rabbit in the race!

Did so many new Frisco products in all scales start making the manufacturers runs after the Frisco flag fell or had it started when she was still with us? I was an armchair model rail tycoon for a number of years (raising a family) so didn´t really keep up with the new products being offered for the Frisco.

I think it's safe to say in N Scale that 99% of releases have been in the last 30 years. :)
