Attached are a few pictures I took on November 31, 2014 while on a Wichita Sub tour with our friend Bob Hoover (friscofriend).

It's pretty amazing these are still here. I took very similar photos there this summer.

    Keith,
Is the cement plant still in operation?

No, in fact at least half of it has already been demolished including the two smoke stacks.

Is that Iceberg Drive-In still open? Boy, that place had good food.

Thanks for the good photos, Keith. I'm not sure I've ever actually seen a Frisco crossing gate up close. I've taken a lot of photos of the old MoP (Iron Mountain) gate at the SSW crossing in Delta, MO and I see distinct differences.

Anyone ever model one of these, in any scale? Better yet, has anyone modeled one that operates? I don't believe there was a crossing gate for the SL-SF interchange/wye at Olathe, but I'm inclined to add on, especially since I did't have room to model the north leg of the wye.

    Best Regards,

Here's the one that I built. It operated by means of a bell crank and push rod.

Dave Salamon has a gate on his Deep River and Southern N scale pike. I think it's manual. I protects the DRS main from a Frisco branch.

Thanks Bob. That place did a lot of business.

Very nice, Karl - I recall the photo somewhere (maybe in the FMIG) but never noticed the crossing gate. I think I'll add this to my list of detail projects. Need to finish track in Olathe and then get a "Tower 4" scene going.

    Best Regards,

No but another Drive-In on the East-West hwy has some of the things that the old Iceberg did.

Wow that was way back, when I worked there not much was left.
Thoughts always come into my mind, I used to drive out on Sunday evening to Wichita in July and August. About every other town had a big tent with a revival going on. It reminded me of the movie with Steve Martin in it. Are we going to have a miracle. It was just like that. !
