I am posting this in case there are any old Frisco veterans in the group. My father, Enos Gaines, Jr. died March 3, 2013 in Birmingham, AL. He was a machinist helper, machinist, and switchman in Springfield (and he spent some time with the FTC) 1946-1959, Safety Superviser in Memphis 1959-1960, Assistant Trainmaster and Trainmaster at Valley Park and Lindenwood 1960-1962, and Trainmaster and General Yard Master in Birmingham 1962-1981.
My condolences to you and your family. May the Lord above ease the bereavements of your hearts, and give you peace. May he comfort you in your grieving, and in time, let you rejoice in the memory of your father, for with you remains his memory, his love, and his legacy. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Thank you for posting David. Our best wishes to you and your family. We are always sorry to hear of the passing of a Frisco person. Charlie
Condolences for the loss of your dad. Lost mine 11 years ago. As well as being your Father, I would bet your dad had some great stories, Frisco or otherwise, that he told you over the years. Please share them when you can with folks that will remember, and appreciate them as well. It will help you and your family to hear and share those stories. I say this because I find myself now wishing that we had done it. You will miss him, but you will be OK. Sounds to me as he left a big void in yours, and many other lives. He retired in 1981? Man he got over 30 years of service and 30 years of retirement, hope I am reading this right. If so, man, he did good didn't he? Good indeed, he earned every bit of it too. Best wishes for you and your family, always a sad day when we loose another Frisco person. But you are now a Frisco person too. Take care,
Tom, You got the years right. He hired out in 1946, missed a year to Korea, and retired a year after the BN takeover when they offered early retirement to some supervisors. My grandfather, Enos Gaines, Sr., was a Frisco machinist in Springfield. He retired at 65 and lived to be 93. I am retired and hope to keep the tradition going. Dave
