Just recerived my DVD of Frisco Employes' Magazines 185 issues 1902 to 1935. I find it interesting that the DVD says it is copyrighted 2011 by Vintaqge Literature Preproductions. If you open the DVD there are 188 PDF Files not 185. The plot Thickens!
Does anyone know of any of the Frisco First ('30s-'40s) on line anywhere? They were the best of the lot.
Does anyone have a lead on the Frisco First magazines from the '30s and '40s? They're very interesting and scannable.
I, too, am hoping that someone will someday show up with a bunch of these. If they have anything close to the photos and operational information that the earlier FEM's had, I'd be exceedingly eager to see ones closer to my modeling era. Best Regards,
The DVD now being discussed seems to mirror the on-line offerings of the Springfield Library. I agree with others, that some compilation of the later (after 1935) magazines would be extremely helpful in researching Frisco history. Are any complete or nearly complete files of Frisco First known to exist? From the DVD and other sources, it appears that several different publications are involved: Frisco System Magazine, started ca. January 1902. How much longer did this publication last after Sept 1904 (Vol 3 #8)? Missouri editions and Texas editions (perhaps others?) are known to exist, probably with regionally targeted advertising. The Frisco Man, started ca. January 1907, publication suspended with/following the April 1920 issue. Frisco Employes' Magazine, started ca. October 1923. [Was there any employee publication between April 1920 and Oct 1923?] "Temporarily" discontinued with the September 1935 issue (Vol 13 #9). Frisco First, started ca. 1936 (large size, 4-panel "newspaper" format). Later (when??) converted to 8.5 x11 magazine format All Aboard , started ca. January 1947, in newspaper format, converted to color magazine from January 1956-Oct/Nov 1957. Publication suspended with the Oct/Nov 1957 issue (Vol 10 #10-11). Publication resumed in newspaper format in February 1963 (as Vol 1 #1) and continued presumably through at least 1979. Bill Pollard
