Here is another Christmas Special: A Model Die Casting (Roundhouse) HO scale 4-6-0 steam locomotive kit, untouched, unused, unbuilt - mint condition, in original box, with all instruction sheets, etc. This is MDC Roundhouse kit #480-456, a 4-6-0 "Ten Wheeler" steam locomotive, with a Harriman boiler. This kit is lettered for a SP locomotive, SP 2324 (easy to remove the lettering), which means that it has a Vanderbilt tender, just as SLSF 1406 utilized. That was my plan years ago when I bought this kit - to make it into SLSF 1406. It won't be perfect, but will be close, and will make into a decent, low cost, good running model of SLSF 1406, with its unique Vanderbilt tender. Locomotive body, frame, and cylinders are metal. Tender frame is also metal. Locomotive cab and tender body are plastic. Brass drivers and brass tender wheel sets; motor is Japanese, not a can motor, but it runs well (same motor is in my MDC 0-6-0 and it runs well). The four wheel pilot truck has plastic wheels. Additional bonus items for frisco.org members: I'll include a SLSF loco diagram sheet for the SLSF 1400-1409 series, and will also include a brass Frisco HO headlight casting and SLSF coonskin headlight bracket casting to mount on the smokebox door as a replacement for the SP headlight and bracket supplied with the kit. I'll also include a mint set of HO Champ EH-256 Frisco steam locomotive decals to use for lettering the kit, and a copy of the pic of SLSF 1406 to use as a guide if desired. This item is no longer in stock at Athearn/Horizion. The last MDC/Roundhouse listing in the Walthers catalog (2004, p 76) listed this kit, then still available, for $85.00. The Champ decals are also no longer available. Asking: $38.00 (well below half of the 2004 catalog price).
