FYI, we are back from yet another month-long stay at our place in Naples. We love it there - this new addition is definitely interfering with my participation on frisco.org! Caroline is already making noises about moving there full time.

BTW, for some reason, the "new" frisco.org format does not operate well on my iPad. It's an original iPad "one".

Saw two trains during the trip from StL down to Naples and back - normally I don't see any! One was a southbound on the old C&EI in central Illinois (now UP I think) - mostly covered hoppers, including some strange looking ones painted dark green. Don't know specifically what they were. The second was a CSX on the old L&N along I-64 again in illinois - hauling a*s with a consist of autoracks and covered hoppers, plus a few other odds and ends. This is drastically different from our trips to Florida when I was a kid (1950's-1960's), which had all kinds of railroad action to prevent boredom. The old pre-Interstate highways often ran alongside a railroad, and ran through towns, not around them, plus there were passenger trains too! I would always have my copy of the Official RR Guide along with me to figure out what road we were seeing, and to check passenger schedules.

When we arrived back home, my copy of "Rails Around Missouri" was here waiting for me. Haven't read any of it yet, but it looks pretty good. What do you folks think about it? nice Frisco coverage (though there always could be more!)

I also picked up a February, 1928 Frisco public TT to add to my large collection. That has provided some good reading so far. I'm not trying to boast, but by my count, there were 189 Frisco system PTT's issued from 1928 to 1967. I've been collecting for years, and have 175 of them. I only have 15 pre-1928 Frisco PTT's.

Some of you may recall I had cataract surgery on my right eye in 2009. Old "rightie" has been crystal clear since then. Well, now "lefty" has clouded up. I'm scheduled to have that fixed Tuesday of this week, and look forward to being able to see clearly again. I now have two different color spectrums between the left (cloudy, dull colors) and the right (clear, brilliant colors). It presented a problem with my driving to and from Florida - my depth perception is poor now as the left side doesn't chip in with a clear view. Ah, the thrills of aging! We took my Audi this trip and it was a pure joy to drive as long as I could see where we were headed!

    Good to be back!

My cataracts aren't at the point where they are operable yet, but I wish I could get them removed. Getting old ain't for sissies. Don't you have an internet connection down there in sunny Naples? I have an Ipad 3 with ATT service on it and works pretty well anywhere.

I took care of my right eye in November, 2009. The doc said the left eye wasn't too bad at the time. That changed a year ago, and it has gotten worse since. I saw him in early April, and we both agreed it is time. Tomorrow is the day!

Yes, both Comcast and Century Link offer good, high-speed internet connections in the Naples area. I like Comcast the best - a bit faster - most people there use them. Century Link has enough trouble just keeping the phones on!

The reason I am waiting is that Pelican Bay, where our condo is located, is re-negotiating their contract with Comcast, which now supplies TV to all of Pelican Bay for a single flat fee, which is a bargain, to include internet connection as an additional feature. Pelican Bay is about four miles long and a mile wide, has about 15 high-rise and 20 mid-to-low rise condos, plus several hundred villas and houses, a golf course, several Pelican Bay restaurants, two tennis clubs, a community center, and who knows what else. It is quite a large market, and both providers, plus some new company I never heard of, are talking with the Pelican Bay Foundation about this contract. I think Comcast will win out. They have been in and put on a real good presentation.

In the meantime, I am using my ATT Local Hot-Spot, which is slow and about worn out (I'm eligible for upgrade to a newer one but don't want to do that yet), or I go to our common rooms in our building, which has a good Comcast Wi-Fi (we also have Wi-Fi at the pool).

With the hot-spot, my iPad is a real kludge. It works well with most things using the building Wi-Fi in the common areas, but still has trouble with frisco.org and a few others, like Facebook. I think my troubles are on my end. Like I said, my Hot-Spot is old (it is the original one), and my iPad is also the first version.

When we get the provider issue resolved (by end-Summer), I'll likely get a laptop for use in Naples, and all will be well. I already have the wireless router I'll need, but I still will need to get a cable modem.

Ken, are you using the iPad with Tapatalk? Although it presents the forum a little differently, I like what it does on the iPad.

I had an issue on my iPad ( an original one also ) when the upgrade happened. In my case the issue was a bookmark that was linked to something other than the home page. That may or may not be your issue.
