Caroline and I are back from a great trip - 26 days in Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland. We did do a bit of railroading - took an express train from Waterford, Ireland to Dublin that was very nice - 2.5 hours and they had Guinness and Jameson on board! Five cars, diesel powered, ran quite fast often. Dublin is a great city - visited Guinness and Caroline and I did the training session on how to tap a proper pint of Guinness Draught. Caroline and I are now certified as proper Guinness servers!

Also took several runs on the London underground. Great system! Good service, but more crowded than I remember from my last trip to London in 2002. I've been a big London Underground fan since my first visit to London in 1979 - one of the best systems in the world. You can get anywhere on it in the greater Londopn area for not much cost.

Really sorry I missed the Frisco meeting in Springfield, but am enjoying the pics that have been posted. Maybe I will have better luck next year - I've missed each of the last three!

Good to have you home Ken!! Your input has been missed here, and it would be good if we could all see for ourselves, "how things get done over there"
There is a huge difference in the whole concept of railroading between there and here. In a blatant attempt to interject some Frisco content. Did you find any prototype, or model Frisco type stuff?

Tom - Nah, no evidence of any US RR's anywhere, other than the basic trackwork. Instead of spikes, they use a heavy rod clip that is screwed into the ties. Some of the route was on concrete ties as well. There was very little evidence of freight traffic - I saw no freight cars anywhere along the way. There was a yard in Waterford and another in Dublin, but only passenger cars were about. I did see a hobby shop in London, but didn't have time to go in.
