    Hi Y'all,

I've seen that quite a few of the diesel guys have used Alumilite to make details of diesel fans, hoods, etc. I was wondering if the material that is used is strong enough for a steam locomotive frame? I'm wanting to make some frames and was curious if this method would work.

    Thanks!

If i remember correctly, alumilite will make a rubber mold from which you can pour into it a material to make you finished part. Keep in mind that this observation is based on using it over 30 years ago.

    Howdy,

Aluminite is okay, but probably not a good solution for a frame. I'd check Smooth On as they have mold materials and resins for about every task. Their prices are as competitive as others and a lot cheaper on some products. There website is http://www.smooth-on.com/. I've used their products to make molds and castings of barges and related items from masters I made for the the Texas Western.

    Have fun,
