The process I used for adding a bulb is attached with pictures embedded. Note; on the Genesis GP38-2 units, it was necessary to pop out the plastic jewel, but not necessary to remove the Gyralight casting from the nose in order to drill.
Re: Adding a lbulb to a low nose Gyralight on Genesis locomotives Thanks, Keith, that is what I needed. Terry
Re: Adding a lbulb to a low nose Gyralight on Genesis locomotives Extremely nice of you to include these instructions. I am looking for two now, although I need the DCC and Sound or I would have bought the ones Tom offered. Thanks for the tune up. Oh by the way, I am going to reply to the Tie Gang thread, I have so many of my stupid moves, hard to pick just one. Bill Jackson
Would someone who may have the opportunity to have their shell off of one of their new GP38-2's look at the nose casting and report back on this thread whether or not it looks like that all that might be necessary to make the gyra-light functional is securing a bulb to the shell behind the factory installed clear lens casting and wiring it to the decoder board. In speaking with Keith last night after I received mine we didn't realize that a lens was already installed. Also, look at the decoder and see if there is a part number etched into it and if so what is it. I am specifically looking for the number 90670 or 90670.45. Thanks in advance,
To add the Gyralight bulb in the Genesis GP38-2, it is necessary to drill a #55 hole to use the Miniatronics 1.2mm 1.5v 15ma bulb. The lens that is on the front of the Gyralight is a jewel-type reflector, not a clear lens.
