The 0-4-0 was a rarity on the Frisco. The 3698 began life on the Birmingham Belt as its number 5. The diminutive locomotive weighed under 40 tons, and exerted a whopping 15000 lbs of tractive effort.
Thanks for posting this Karl; I've seen it listed on a roster before, but have yet to see a picture of it. I'm glad to see the diagram - this may have to be the next steam engine on my railroad! - James
James, You read my mind. And to think, last fall I sold a John English 0-4-0 with full valve gear and a slopeback tender - darn it!
I'm glad to see we share the same good taste in motive power! I feel your pain about selling the switcher last year, so my advice is: Don't ever sell another locomotive again. Ever. Unless it's to me... - James
I'm curious of the retirement date, too. The diagram is dated 1-18-21 in the lower right corner, I'm amazed that an 0-4-0 was still around at that time. According to Stagner's Steam Locomotives of the Frisco Line, there were apparently three 0-4-0's aquired with the Birmingham Belt; 3631, 3698 & 3699. Frisco operated the BB from about the turn of the century to '23 when Frisco finally bought it. The 0-4-0's aren't listed in the '44 info list from the book, or the '46 info list in Steam Finale. Perhaps they lasted until the Frisco completely took over in '23? Just a guess. I would love to see a picture... - James
Frisco Power says that 3698 was on the books until 1924, and that 3699 was actually an 0-4-2 that was scrapped in 1900. I missed that earlier! - James
