    Hello,

This is a reminder that the first meeting to dicuss a proposal to have the 2012 Frisco Convention in Tulsa is this Saturday, May 05, 2012, 12:30pm at the Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett.

The attachment is some ideas I had for the event. Please take notes of your input and bring them to the meeting. If you are not able to attend send them to me.

I identified 72 members in the Tulsa area and hope many of you can attend! Any other members are more than welcome also.

    Thank You,

    Joe:

I know that you can't please everyone with the choice of dates and I am only one individual, but if it that weekend I won't be able to attend. Are you considering that weekend becauase of the Tulsa State Fair? How much interest do you expect in that?

I too am only one member, but I will input that since that is during football season that I most likely wont be able to attend. I barely made it to Springfield last year, and Tulsa is an hour more driving time for me than Springfield. My only chance is if it is before football season but even that is questionable because of football camp that runs from 5pm -"dark thirty" (about 4-5) hours.
Once again I am just one member and most of the time my ideas about it being before then end of August or even before the end of July conflict with several people so I'll just have to deal with it.

Joe and all, thanks for stepping up. The more I'd looked at my home town as a possibility for fall, the more remote it seems: now that my daughter's fully investing herself into competitive soccer (stepping up to U-10 in the fall), most of our weekends are spoken for. I'd be hesitatant to commit to something to which I can't fully commit. At any rate, sorry to build any false hope of a Columbia locale.

Family stuff trumps railroading for me. Can't remember where I read the quote, but my family graciously supports my model RR habit, and I want to keep it that way.

Should anyone trek to Columbia MO on their own to patronize the Dinner Star train, give me a shout. And, if the stars align, I might even be able to make a Tulsa event!

    Hello,

Yes, the date I selected in the proposal was because of the Fair. It was more for the ladies and after hours of the convention, but I am open to other dates that the Tulsa volunteers comes up with.

    Hello,

Bob Thompson (friscobob) and I edited the proposal that was posted on May 03. The attachment shows the areas where we need volunteers to help.

Bob and I were the only people to attend the first meeting on May 05. We desperately need more volunteers from the Tulsa area to help with items before and during the 2012 Convention.

Please contact us if you are able to volunteer.

I volunteer to do registration. I can do it here at home on my computer. No credit cards, just checks.

    Hello Richard,

Thank You for volunteering to do registration.

We also need more volunteers from Tulsa and a few frisco.org members to do clinics. Please contact me if you can help!

    Joe and Bob:

Either Mike's on vacation or didn't see your request to set up a poll to pick a date. For those of you that didn't see your 3 suggested dates, here is the quote from the PDF:

    1. Proposed Convention Date: Friscomike please setup poll for August 31-September 02, September 14-16 or September 21-23.

I would strongly suggest that youa date and NOT do a poll. If you do a poll it will probably be split without a clear favorite.

Having said that, I think the last two September dates are the best ones. The first weekend you proposed (August 31-September 02) is the one before Labor Day. Just my opinion.

Re: 2012 Frisco Convention Location ??

My "one man alone" opinion: None of these dates work for me, but I know it's impossible to satisfy everyone. August 31 would be the Saturday after my first football game so all those are out. Now that I think about it, even if it was scheduled when I could go my parents might or might not let me drive Tulsa by my self.

Indeed, I took the Texas Eagle to Lansing Michigan for ProTrak Weekend. ProTrak is my favorite software for running trains. I'll set up the poll. Best, mike

That would be great! May I also suggest a swing by where the 4500 is displayed, over on SW Boulevard on old US66. Then, for dinner, we have a choice between Billy Ray's BBQ or Ollie's (the latter heavy on the RR theme).

Still trying to nail down a layout for an open house, and I wish I knew of a Frisco-themed layout in Tulsa. As for dates, that last date mentioned in the poll would work fine, as it's well before the Tulsa State Fair, and the only other "game" in town would be TU Golden Hurricane football.

Far as short lines go, both the Sand Springs and the TSU would be shut down for the weekend. However...............what would the possibility be of an open house tour of a layout on Friday nite and/or Sunday morning?

Re: 2012 Frisco Convention Location ??

    Hello,

The 2012 Convention is set for September 21-23 in Tulsa. I am now looking for the hotel and meeting room for the event. Hope to have that finished by the middle of next week. As soon as that is done I will send the information to Richard Napper so he can start registrations.

We still need volunteers to help with Clinics, Door Prizes, Display of Models and Model Contests.

There will be a meeting Saturday 1:00pm, June 09, 2012 at the Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett to discuss plans for the Convention.
