No doubt about it, Bill. I had two large storage containers of trees from the old layout that I re-used. Not sure where they all went. Steve ( @modeltruckshop ) noted on the MRH forum that the F3's seemed a bit late era for the Crawford and Cherokee (v2). I pulled out of storage some transition era stuff from the old layout (I saved a few items from ~early 50s) to take pictures for Matt Fisher who is the admin for the "SLSF/Frisco Modelers" page on FaceBook. He was looking for a larger variety than my current steam-era stuff and his O/W. If you do FaceBook, post some stuff there for global enjoyment. I am also using some of these photos for an article that I have discussed with Otto Vondrak at MRH. Not sure if I can meet their standards, but going to give it a try. -Bob T.
All: Good pics again! William: Really like your autumn look. Hoping to do autumn on my (Arkansas) Ozark theme... but we'll see how/if that turns out as envisioned. Andre
Great stuff guys! I was able to get a few hours in after work the past few nights to work on the crummies. Going for something in the 1905-1915 theme, built from the old Roundhouse kits. While I bought these kits for $5-$10 each, I think that I paid more for trucks and detail parts. Still need to get the decals set a bit better and clearcoat/weather/window glazing/final assembly. I will put the cupola bracing on last and end ladders on the red one. This is still a loose assembly until after more work. Also worked a bit more on decaling some boxcars with some old-timey schemes: Same here for getting the decals set and clearcoat/weathering. The Iron Mountain car needs some roof corner grabs and brake wheel. Not sure why the WNW car looks like it is sitting up so high. I need to fix a stirrup there also, it looks like. hmmm. Take care all, -Bob T.
Mine this week is another Athearn mixer I painted for the same guy I did the others for. Nice little trucks when they are dressed up a little. Any of you modeling 60s,70s or even some 80s should keep them in mind if you find one cheap. Before: After:
Great pics showing up again! BobT: Always a treat to see your model projects and your layout. Steve: Another excellent truck/vehicle project! Cement trucks live hard lives. Andre
Andre thanks! Yes you are right they have a brutal life of overweight and filthy. ( not that I can throw stones at that!) ha
Thanks Sherrel! Due to many bad choices in my life those are easy for me to get refence ideas from! HAHAHA
Sounds good. I am doing an article for our local NMRA newsletter on detailing one of these. I will add a copy here when Im done
Looking forward to seeing your article Steve. From your description of how to model in your posts I know it will be fantastic. Joe
Ha! Yeah it may be time to hang it up before long. Lotta projects have crossed that pad. It’s so old it’s not soft anymore either.
Was hoping to post that I "decaled" the powered Athearn BB GP9 that I was refitting (removing the dynamic brake blisters and such) to Frisco-ize it and make it more GP7-like. Alas, the decals I had purchased from the now defunct Frisco museum disintegrated upon getting wet. I'll have to order some newer ones. Can't win 'em all.
