Couldn't agree more. All of my models work for a living. No free loaders allowed. Everyone pulls they're own weight.
Small layout - think small operation. My #1 Diesel vote: VO-1000 My #1 Steam vote: 2-8-0 Consolidation
After thoughtful consideration I have come to the conclusion that I cannot pick just one, and I never could eat just one potato chip either This is truly a difficult question Have a great day Darren
I would have to go with the B30-7 because it was GE's counter-part to the GP38 (do-it-all) and I'm personally a GE guy. But if I had to pick steam it would be one of the 'Hudsons' that were modified from the Pacifics. I just think that they were a SWEEET lookin' locomotive.
Only ONE locomotive, eh? On a SMALL layout... right? No brainer: VO1000 in a "West Bottoms-like" setting. You all really should have known. Andre Ming
Any loco motive on a small layout? I pick the 4 axel with 10,000 HP. Just kidding. Really though, I would have to pick a O/W GP7, a GP38-2, or a 44 toner.
Changing my vote from GP-7 to 2-8-0 1290, photo shown in modeling 2-8-0 thread. Wirth has convinced me to focus on steam rather than diesel.
An addition- I could use a GP7, GP15-1 or switcher as well. On my layout, it's all 4-axle engines. For a small HO scale layout, I have a Russian Decapod that would fit the bill.
