FWIW: I received my Mask Island KCT decal set I ordered here a while back. The quality appears to be very good. Both white and yellow stripe decals are on the sheet. There is also the KCT diamond herald printed in yellow w/black lettering with a very, VERY small white w/black pinstripe outline. (Said white w/black pinstripe outline is correct. This white line was missing on the defunct Oddballs KCT herald in the Oddballs set.) The yellow is a very pleasing "dulux" type color and not the lemon yellow color of the old defunct Oddballs yellow. I cannot comment on the opacity of any of the decals for I have not applied them to anything black as yet. It was my understanding that Mask Island was working on a black w/yellow stripes Frisco switcher set. This set was being produced by Mask Island without input/coercion by any of us here as far as I know. As for me, I'm not giving up on the idea of "someday" having good Frisco black and yellow stripe sets. I've accepted the fact that it may not be quite the avenue we first discussed, but I think there is reason to be optimistic concerning Mask Island decals. The printed quality of this KCT set is of a high enough quality that I am willing to wait for the Mask Island Frisco switcher set to be released and I will personally take a further look at their offerings.
That's correct. He was already looking into making the switcher set when I asked him about the GP7s. I've sent him an email to find out how that project is coming along. As soon as I hear from him I'll let everyone know. I hope everyone can be patient. This all won't happen over night. But judging by the quality of his other decals it will be worth the wait. Ray
I sent Mask Island Decals an email just a few minutes ago asking for a price for 150 HO scale and 75 N scale two sheet decal sets. Also asked what type of printer they would use. Joe
Joe, I don't think I ever replied to this thread. I'm would be interested in at least one n-scale set. Paul
Hubert Mask is going to call me in the morning to go over what he has planned for the Frisco decals. Joe
I talked to Hubert Mask this morning and he said that they are working on SW-7 and SW-9 decals. The artwork is done and they are doing the final touches on the decals. Mask Island use's a ALPS printer. I need to send him a color chart with the yellow we want printed. A decal set will do two locomotives and will cost about $7.00 plus what we decide to charge. I would like to see $1.00 added to help support the Frisco Archives. Any thoughts or suggestions? Joe
Is this the right color chart I need to send to Hubert Mask and is the color swatch the right sample? Also we need to have a quick vote on which color code to use. Joe
R+2W+Y looks closest to me. My reservation at this point is this is what a typical ALPs type layered print process looks like. Did you happen to ask what type of printer would be used to print these. They have some crazy expensive machines out there doing the layered process that are pretty good. I just want to know as I will not be buying any Yellow if it is ALPs printed because of the dithering print effect, with these old printers in this color. But make no mistake I appreciate the work and effort that has been put into this.
I don't have an order/reservation in, but for what it's worth, I'm waffling between R+1W+Y and R+2W+Y. Have even held up my Champ EH-91 set to try to match...2W might be closest but for those who'd be weathering and thus toning it down a bit, the 1W might be preferable? Best Regards,
Tom, I did ask about the printer and he said it is an ALPS printer that will be doing the work on our decals. He didn't go into any more specifics. I guess I don't know what to ask for more information about the printer. Any suggestions? R+2W+Y looks right to me. Joe
Count me in. I would like some and trust you guys for color choice. I also think the $1.00 is a good idea. Tom, what do you use when you print? Do you have a laser printer? Thant has always been my home decal dream.
Trying to judge color based on what we are seeing on our monitors is a failing proposition because of the lack of color accuracy on most monitors. On my monitor (which has been color adjusted) the R +3W + Y looks more like what I have seen in high quality photographs or slides. I just compared it to a slide my dad had taken back in '63.
On my computer R+2W+Y looks closest. Unfortunately, I will have minimal use for an EMD switcher set. Maybe three or four sets at the most. Do you know if the set will included full stripes and the early RR Roman lettering variation?
Mask Islands' ALPS printer is a Kodak printer, but depending on the yellow color we choose Hubert may have the decals silk screened on Micro Scale paper. After the first run of SW's I requested that GP-7's be the second run. So the preliminary lineup is SW-7/SW-9, GP-7, U-25 short and tall hoods and GP-35. If we need to change the order now is the best time to do so. All of my Frisco books are packed right now so I don't have any way to look it up, I need a list of all the black and yellow diesels that Frisco owned so we can extend the lineup. On the GP-35 there is some white lettering in two places on the long hood. We need to know what they say. Joe
Ray, Hubert Mask wanted me to tell you Thank You for your help on the Frisco decals. Please keep posting your input on this project. Joe
FIRE EXTINGUISHER INSIDEIs typically located around engine start station. The info behind the air compressor room I am working on, but it is typically pertaining to tools, hoses, chains and such maybe extra knuckles too. With the air compressor line running to the roof on this series of Geeps it may have something to do with that. I see what your referring to, just cant make it out.
My only other request as it goes on would be just a yellow stripe set for making engines like the 44 and 45 ton units. I realize there would not be much demand for the entire set for those but stripes like the old Herald King sets that matched the color of the other decals would be great. Not that I would mind a 44 tonner set with the yellow coonskins for the hoods, but that would be costly vs. demand.
