I'm looking to drum up enough support to have a special run of Frisco decals. What type of railcar will be determined at a later date as well as who the manufacturer would be. Please post your suggestions and comments. Joe
YES! The correct numeral eight as used by the Frisco in white and bronze gold 1/2" tall! Not 8 but this one not your standard railroad roman.....
I've talked with Hubert Mask at Mask Island Decals, and he's willing to release some of his HO sets in N scale if there's enough interest. We haven't talked cost yet. Pat Hiatte New Bloomfield, MO
That would be great! Maybe the cost will give us an idea on how many people we need round up. Good job Pat. Joe
We have a total of 3 people that support a special run of Frisco decals. A lot more people need to support this or it will be cancelled. Please alert your contacts about this thread!!! Joe
I would support a special run. I am particularly interested in decals for steam locomotives and "Frisco Lines" hearalds for caboose and boxcar.
I will support a run for B&Y diesel "Stripe" sets. If done in Oddballs or better quality (better yellow mainly) I would be in for 1 dozen HO sets at the least.
I might go for a set (maybe another one as well for a backup for my undecorated, HO, RS1 (B/Y)... if the price isn't outrageous. I need stripes and letters/numbers. The tiny "AT&N" letters under the cab window would be nice but if that's asking too much, I may can do well enough myself on those particular letters.
We have 8 people who have shown interest on a special run of decals. I don't know how many people would be required but I'm sure it will be less than a freight car run. I would guess about 50 would be required. Any suggestions and comments? Please alert your contacts about this thread!!! Joe
I am under the impression that most custom decal producers require about 24 - 50 SETS before they'll run them. I've already committed to half that number if the lower number is required. We have the artwork already: The defunct Oddballs set. I think I even have an O and S scale sized Oddballs set for references in regards to striping thickness, angles, font style, etc. If the various sub-letterings needed (AT&N etc.) could be added to the basic set I mention, all the more better. One thing that I would hope to be an improvement over the old Oddballs set would be a better yellow. The Oddballs yellow always had too much "lemon" yellow in it. Now, to me, the ideal would be artwork for ONE set of Frisco B&Y stripes that includes all variations and sub lettering. My long-term idea would be for us to pool our resources and contract a quality custom decal producer. One that we help produce the artwork and fund the original order, and said custom decal guy/gal can retain a copy of the artwork and thus can market the set to the general modeling public as well, thus (hopefully) giving the custom decal supplier the ability for the deal to result in possibly recouping more for his time/investment and therefore making it more attractive for him/her to work with us.
Joe: That's typically the number of DECAL SETS, not people. If one person ordered the specified number of DECAL SETS, said custom decals would be run for that one person. Custom decals are typically what proto-lance/freelance modelers do to adorn their locomotive rosters/rolling stock with their own liveries. Turning to custom printers was more prevalent in the past than recently, though with the attrition of the ALPS printers (no more are being made and parts/service is getting more difficult to obtain), perhaps more proto-lance/freelance modelers modeling via their own proto-lance/freelance road will be returning to the custom printers that are still surviving the downturn in modeling (in contrast to the growth of RTR).
Maybe we should say how many sets of decals we would like to buy. I'm in for three sets. Our goal is to reach 50. Joe
I went back to see how many sets people said they would buy and it comes to a total of 21 sets!!! Were almost half way there. Thank you Andre and Craig for making me realize that train of thought. Joe
