I really dont care for Face Book, Just my humble opinion. People keep sending me FB status updates, waaay to much information on some, wow. Hang in there Charlie, your doing a great job, things will get easier for folks the more they use and learn the new system.
William, I am not following that completely so I am going to work up a tutorial for you, so, stand by for that. I will let you know. You should never have to use the back or forward buttons. Sites with good navigation (like this one) do not need to ever use the back or forward buttons. Charlie
Ken and Paul, the ability to change the sort order posts in a thread was a feature of the old software and I used it all the time, but is not part of Xenforo forum software. There supposedly is a module that was created by another Xenforo user that is available. The two of you and I may be the only users that made use of that feature but I offered to pay for the addition of the feature if our Staff group decided to add it.
We will talk about that. Reading the posts backwards is totally foreign to me but we will look at that this week. Charlie

Charlie, I'm going to give you an OK for now. Still trying to find my way around. I just really liked the layout of the former. Shucks, I resisted the movement from the recip to the jet engine. I still run outside to look when I hear some of the water bombers fly over using DC-6's ... it's just a melodious sound.
The Tutorial, is very helpful, I will try for a few days to use some of the new features. I may have questions later. One that come's to mind, two locations for new posts are used. The one in the activity box to the right, the other is up on the top navigation bar in "white" Both say's new posts, they bring up, different posts. Is that right?
I did notice the photo's are gone, with the locks. That help's we now see more posts to interact with.
Bill, the list at the right will not update and indicate what posts you have read. It merely displays the ten newest posts.
I missed the old portal page, but now that I've discovered the "Recent Posts" and "New Posts" pages, I like the new software a lot.
I liked/prefer the most recent stuff first as well, but I can learn to adjust if necessary. - Brandon
I have to admit that this whole discussion about having the new posts at the top has caught me off guard as I had never (in 15 years of doing this) considered that people did it that way. It seems to me that you would have to find the spot of the last post that you read and then read up. Correct me if I am wrong. I think the general idea of the way a thread is read is that it is like a book. In other words, you read down. The other thing is that the new post would be at the top and if you wanted to respond you would have to scroll to the bottom. I'm not being critical, just trying to understand what that would be like and why people would like it that way. As I said, until this was discussed here, it is something I had never even thought about as no one on TrainBoard has ever asked about that. Charlie
What I do is look at the last post, then I scroll up, until I recognize where I last read. Although, I am thinking, the most confusing thing is having new posts in two locations. Thats been clarfied, starting though it was a tumbler for me.
Re: Last Posts at the Top This was a convenient feature of the old software. As frequently as I checked Frisco.org, active threads had, at most, two unread postings. Having them at the top was an "ergonomic convenience" that saved a little time while getting caught up with the site. It also kept "New Posts" in view for continuing my update of what was going on here. The "Go the First Unread" feature in this software has nearly the same effect. Its minor drawback is when the "First Unread" post is near the bottom of a page, it is necessary to scroll all the way to the top to click on "New Posts" to continue. I will get used to this quirk quite soon and likely not notice the extra scroll-up step.
Actually, look in the bottom right hand corner of every page. In the corner there is a small link that says "Top." Click on that.
I like the new website very much!!! You and the other administrators have done a fantastic job. The "How To" tutorials are a great too. Adding photos to an album is very easy now, much better than old website. Please don't be discouraged by some of the negative posts, keep explaining how the website works just like you have been. You have a lot of support from us. Joe
I really like the image uploading the new software offers. It automatically will resize the images to fit here, just click on "upload a file" (just below and right of the post your typing) find the photo you want to upload, and the rest is very easy, you can select thumbnail or full image. I used to spend literally hours downsizing and cropping photos to fit. This is indeed soooo much better.
