Thanks to our own Kevin Love (Wmrx) I was able to reproduce a Missouri Pacific calendar for 2012. I know there are a number of other MoPac friends also on this site, including myself, so I am posting for everyone's benefit.
I live in Van Buren so it is ok for me to have both the Missouri Pacific & the Frisco Calendars. I know the two roads were competitors, but both SL-SF & MP started off the the same line in the begining. Plus I liked seeing the pics of the run-through trains with Jenks Blue and Orange/White engines running together. Ship it on the Frisco!!! Missouri Pacific Route of the Eagles!!! Murphy Jenkins
OF COURSE IT'S OK!!! It's just too silly to "root" for a railroad (That's been gone for years) like a ball team! I have a dozen or more "favorite" railroads and I don't like each and everything that the Frisco ever did, among them were the late diesel paint schemes. "Simplified" or "austerity" schemes and the Mandarin and white were simply awful, but I don't "bleed" Frisco diesel black and yellow... Tom G.
We used to joke at the Mop stuff... calling it the route of the "Big Dipper". (As if they had a big vat of blue paint they dipped their engines into!) That was then. Now the Mop has been gone for decades. I shot scant few Mop pics "back then". I now regret it. Something about that old Jenks blue on a tattered GP7 making a laborious "midnight shove" of interchange cars to the Frisco's Back Track at Van Buren late at night was pretty cool.
Keith, thanks for the calender. I printed it on a color laser printer and passed them out to "the train nerds" I have bbq lunch with every Friday. It took a few minutes for the guys to see it was for 2012. The Mopac guy was very appreciative and the rest of the guys enjoyed it too. Dale Rush Carthage, MO
Dale's comments made me think about the original year this calendar was issued. This was for 1983, the last year that MoPac issued a calendar. Thanks to Keith, it is usable for today. I have a few other years on hand and Keith has offered to "update" them as well. We'll see what next year brings.
I always wanted one of those MoPac calendars from the early 1950's with the Eagle pic on it and a changeable card for each day and month. Never could find a good one. Frisco should have done something like that featuring the Texas Special and The Meteor. Ken
