Re: new power for Frisco. I filmed an op session at my railroad (the Iantha Branch) The other night. After many hours of work I got it together and on youtube. So if your interested check it out. It's in 2 parts because youtube wont take a video more than 15 min. PS if you're not a fan of Metallica you might want to turn off your speakers. Part 1: Part 2: Ethan
This is my newest steamer #205 making some break-in runs pulling freight. If you look close, you will see that one of the gondolas has a few hundred pounds of coal in it for extra weight. Crank up the volume and enjoy the coal smoke! Edit: I don't know if it is my browser, or just the embedding process, but when I watch videos embedded in a post, the motion is jerky. If the video seems rough, try watching it on Youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fXk9MwmAhw
I like the Metallica sound track! At least it's not Hip Hop. And the Mountain Dew refinery. This is fun stuff....when I get "Joplin" underway, I'll regale you all with some of the same. Thanks, Ethan! ABD JAX,FL
Here's what my Frisco has been reduced to since moving to Tuscaloosa. That's EZ track on an upside down ping pong table supported by my watercraft stand. Sweet? Right?
Re: Glacier Park Models Frisco 4500 Any ideas about merging AVI video files, every time i hit the stop button on my camera it makes a new file and would like to learn if they can be merged into bigger files for uploading. Tom Holley

Thanks Guys For the comments and input. If I do much more of this video stuff, a camcorder might be in order. I am not completely satisfied with the focus, all of my video was recorded with a point and shoot Nikon P 6000 in video mode. I might try using a friends camcorder to see how much better it works. Any ideas or suggestions on model friendly camcorders or the like? Thanks Tom Holley
Tom, even though they are a little pricy it is a VERY good camera. Sony handy cam. I have the SX-44 model. I absolutly love it. Here are some specs: 60x Optical zoom 2000x digital zoom. 4 gb of internal memory with a slot for an SD card No view finder and it runs on a touch screen that folds out. Internal lens cover Still photo mode Tripod completable Records in low, standard and high quality I record my stuff in high quality and there is enough internal memory to hold an hour of footage at high quality Normal price at Wal Mart is $240, but I was lucky and got mine for $200. It is worth every penny. Infact I just took some footage at Rick McClellan's layout this afternoon and he saw what the camera could do and he looked impressed. Ethan
Tom, fabulous! I've only watched a few minutes thus far, but I'm thoroughly enjoying what I'm seeing. Gives me added incentive to try to hit the basement and finish the Olathe trackwork this evening. Best Regards,
Re: Glacier Park Models Frisco 4500 |-|Thanks Chris Need to get busy on some scenery myself, got kind of a scenery block going on right now. The bottom of the creek is puzzling me at the moment, like what colors to use and how to mix them into the bottom before the gloss goes on. I just gotta get out there and get some paint brushes dirty and get it over with I can always put some more ground foam over my mistakes, but running out of room for the water now Tom Holley
Regarding the creek bottom, if I remember correctly, when you want to give the illusion of depth, start with dark colors near black in the middle and then lighter colors of blue/green as you move to the shore then slip into the color of the soil next to the shore. All of this pertains to relatively clear waters. When you pour clear resin on top, the depth is nicely exaggerated. Muddy water would be simpler, concentrate on the color of the soils from the headwaters or surrounding land.
I made a trip to the Kansas City area last weekend that included a stop at Rick McClellan's layout. I have here the links to the footage I shot in three parts. Looks like you guys were having fun Ethan, Thanks for posting. You might consider at a op session to give the stars a chance to introduce themselves I can see you, but those other folks I dont know who they are, I see all these names but know no face for the names. Tom
